A 2018 Colombian telenovela, la Reina del Flow narrates the story of Yeimy Montoya, a young but incredibly talented musician who, unfortunately, will suffer a series of tragedies that will change her forever.

The story begins with a teenage Yeimy, shy and naive, who wanted nothing more than to be near her crush and classmate Charly Cruz, a handsome but ambitious young guy, that had aspirations of becoming a singer but that, despite having a great voice, lacked in his ability of improvisation and creating lyrics, an essential part for reggaeton. Yeimy manages to help him and his best friend, Juan Camilo, in an improvisation contest and then is convinced by them to join their group "Soul and Bass" after learning how good she is.

However, is at this very point that Yemiy's life will turn into hell, losing not only her family but also her freedom, having to shed her identity as Yeimy Montoya to become Tammy Andrade, to go after the people that destroy her life.

La Reina del Flow features examples of:

  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: The narco Manin may be an outright evil person but he never denies that he cares or loves for his family greatly, especially when it comes to his wife, who he had been pining after for years, even when she had married his brother.
    • Charly may not really care for others but he goes above and beyond for his daughter, Vanessa, though his over protectiveness can be too much for her to handle. He also has a lot of love for his mother and while his relationship with his wife, Gema, can be strained at times, he cares a great deal for her.
  • From Bad to Worse: Though at the beginning Yeimy's family situation wasn't ideal, she was well cared for and loved by her parents and grandmother, but from the moment her parents got killed by a narco for refusing to pay him for protection, her life unraveled. She was taken advantage of not only by this narco, who would buy her parents' bakery from her by the minimum price but also by the guy she fell in love with and stole her work and freedom.
  • Love Triangle: There are two main love triangles in the story:
    • The first one is between Charly, Yeimy and Juancho. Yeimy had always harbored a crush on Charly since meeting him meanwhile Juancho fell for her not long after meeting her but he never had the courage to speak up. Charly, on the other hand, liked Yeimy but he never saw her beyond a friend/lyric provider, going as far as taking advantage of her crush on him.
    • The second love triangle happens later on in the story, involving Yeimy, Juancho and Cata. After almost a decade, Juancho had managed to partially move on from Yeimy, starting a relationship with who had been her best friend in her teenage years, Catalina. With the sudden and devastating news of Yeimy's apparent death, he decides to go forth with Cata's desire for marriage and got engaged. However, when Yeimy comes back to their lives, it's clear that Juancho never stopped loving Yeimy, prompting Cata to act more and more jealous and overly possessive with him.
  • The Mole: Yeimy, as Tammy, will gain Charly's trust to access information about the shady businesses he has with his uncle, in order to pass that to the DEA.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Both Charly and his uncle are masters of getting what they want, especially Charly who displays this trait the most.
  • Revenge: One of the central themes is this one. Yeimy wants nothing more than to make the people that hurt her and her loved ones to suffer just as much as she did or even more, however, she learns along the way how much of a double edged sword this can be and how innocent people could end up caught in the crossfire.
