  • Introduced in Dragon Quest III, the Cannibox and Mimics has been a recurring monsters in the franchise ever since. Joined by the Pandora’s Box in the seventh entry of the game. These carnivorous chests would disguise as a normal treasure chests to ambush any greedy and careless adventurers with heavy hitters such as Critical Hit or even the instant death spell Whack. Being the monsters who started the idea of a chest monster actually looking the same as normal treasure chests, these horrors gained their infamy in the franchise quickly.
  • One day, one of the deities take some of their recent adventures loot back to the Pantheon. When that deity opened one of the treasure chests, it turned out to be a Mimic. But while clearing wanting to devour that deity, the Mimic for some reason restrained itself and hopped its way to the Main House and keep making clicking noise, much to everyone’s confusion. That was until a passing slime helped the mimic to translate. At it turns out, the Mimic wished to be ascended, due to their status of being the monster that introduced the idea of a Chest Monster disguising as a normal treasure chest and their infamy in their franchise. Impressed by the Mimic’s willingness to restrain its endless hunger, the Mimic was ascended along with its entire species. Since then, Mimics and its colour variants, the Cannibox and Pandora’s Box begin to pop out in the Pantheon.
  • Due to them being effective weapons, many overlord at the House of Villainy are quick to hire mimics to disguise as treasure chests as traps. The mimics are more then happy to work for them as that means they could get more adventurers to devour. Meanwhile for the dark lords they find the mimics to be pretty efficient as getting rid of all those wannabe heroes.
  • The Dragon Quest heroes, especially Erik are alerted when they learnt these monsters have ascended too. As now when they open a treasure chests during some of their adventures, they could likely be ambushed by a mimic. Therefore they have been advising other deities to be more cautious during treasures hunt. Erik, who had collected treasures in a far away land with his sister, thus it is likely that he will think twice before opening a chest in the Pantheon from now on.
  • The Slimes seems to have bitter experience with the Canniboxes as some of them worked for the Plob before and helped kidnapping them. Therefore sometimes the Slimes will chase away any Canniboxes that entered Slimenia. However, some of the braver Slimes from Slimenia like to have some Canniboxes as crew members to act as trap. Considering no matter who are they helping the Canniboxes will still get a meal, they don't really mind joining either sides. Due to their uncertain loyalty , the majority of the Slimes don't trust the Canniboxes.
  • Thanks to their ability of using instant death spells, Gin sometimes like to use some of the Mimics to assassinate any particularly wealthy target. As these chest monsters can effectively kill a target with the spell Whack and then devour the body, thus cleaning any evidence. So far the Mimics are proven to be effective weapons for the Black Organization, with even a few of the Mimics considering to join the criminal syndicate. They are currently quite helpful at eliminating wealthy targets.
