Sandbox / "No Recent Examples, Please!" Potential Writeups Storage

Go To

No Recent Examples, Please! doesn't allow certain tropes to be added until some time has passed, usually for the purposes of preventing knee-jerk reactions or so that enough information is released to evaluate certain things such as Acclaimed Flop. However, in the effort of purging most of these examples, plenty of writeups that some Tropers work hard on and have decent structure and grammar that end up getting lost and deleted in the sea of page histories. This page will store these potential writeups until the date has passed. Feel free to correct any grammatical errors.

Once the date has passed, bring it up to a cleanup thread of a trope or a cleanup thread of the respective work first to see if the trope/audience reaction still holds merit and relevancy.

    Helluva Boss
Can be added on October 26, 2024; 6 months after release date

YMMV for the show in general

  • Broken Base: The introduction of the Helluva Shorts. Some feel that they are completely pointless and the team should strictly make new episodes. Others gladly welcomed the shorts, feeling they are a great way to bridge the gap in-between new full length episodes and it would be nice to see what the characters get up to outside of the central plot.

Season 2 "Mammon's Special"

  • Base-Breaking Character: For such a minor character, Oliver has proven contentious among viewers, with some praising him as absolutely adorable (and, among disabled viewers, relatable) and others deriding him as an offensively cliche Inspirationally Disadvantaged stereotype. Though those in the latter often ignore that Fizzarolli himself is disabled so him interacting with Oliver is less an abled person getting inspired/uplifted by someone disabled and more so Fizz comforting and inspiring someone just like him.

    Helldivers II
Can be added on July 8th, 2024, six months after release
  • Even Better Sequel: While Helldivers was already a well-received co-op shooter, II takes everything that was loved about the first game and either makes it better or builds on it, including a more thought-out and creative Galactic War system which tells an entirely unique overarching Emergent Gameplay narrative, stunning visual graphics and audio design, many a rework to divisive mechanics and best of all absolutely no Bribing Your Way to Victory—everything in the game can be unlocked by playing it for long enough. All these features plus excellent word of mouth led to the game becoming 2024's first totally unexpected smash hit.
  • Sequel Displacement: Because of the gigantic Newbie Boom that II's unexpected popularity has brought with it, there are countless players who don't seem to notice the giant glaring roman numeral "II" in the game's title, and it's not hard at all to find internet posts or videos with "Helldivers" in the title when they mean Helldivers II. Even on This Very Wiki the Helldivers page remained mostly barren for years until it suddenly began receiving a gigantic influx of II-related examples when the second game came out and had to be hastily split before things got out of hand.

    Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

YMMV

Can be added on May 17, 2024; 6 months after release date

  • Broken Base:
    • Scott being a Decoy Protagonist and replaced by Ramona. A good amount of the fanabse consider this a great twist and amazing retelling of the story that allowed to explore and develop Ramona's relationship with the Exes, with many supporters pointing out how he was technically playing a major role through controlling Robot-01 and got back to center stage in the final episodes (with the Fridge Humor of the title being that he literally took off from the show and the possibility of him being given proper focus if the series gets a second season). However, a second group of fans were enraged by this change due to how misleading the title was despite Scott being the series main character and the handling of his character arc, considering it the most enraging mislead since Masters of the Universe: Revelation took out He-Man. There is also a third portion that is fine with the change, but still wished Scott played a bigger role.

      Alternate writeup:
A massive one over the First-Episode Twist. While some see it as a nice change of pace into a "what-if" timeline, others see it as a bait-and-switch similar to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Not helping matters is that Netflix marketed as an adaptation of the comic, leaving many fans feeling betrayed.
    • The nature of this anime being more of an Adaptation Deviation instead of a faithful adaptation of the comics has upset many fans, with them pointing out how the eponymous character was Demoted to Extra while Ramona took center stage. Many other fans ended up enjoying how it fleshes out all the other characters more and addressing the issues of the original story.

      Alternate writeup:
While the series has gotten substantial praise for being a Stealth Sequel that addressed many criticisms the original story had such as the lack of attention on Ramona's flaws and the minimal depth of the League of Evil Exes despite their popularity. There is a loud group that have expressed frustration that because it is a sequel, they were denied a proper adaptation of the comic's story in animated form as anticipated for some time now, as well as the minimalization of the titular character inching into similar criticisms of what hit Masters of the Universe: Revelation's utilization of the Decoy Protagonist for some.]]
    • Fans appreciated Ramona's Jerkass Realization montage on how she ran away from her problems, leaving and hurting her exes, sans Todd who had an offscreen peaceful breakup, as it marks a huge point in her Character Development. Others however, felt that the message was muddled due to Gideon being included, as Ramona didn't wrong or hurt him anyway, she left him because of his abusive narcissism.

    Wish (2023)

YMMV

  • The Scrappy: Valentino. He seems to only exist to fill in the Disney cliche of the main character having a talking cartoon animal sidekick. Unlike Olaf, who represented the bond between Anna and Elsa, and Mushu, who raised Mulan's spirits when she was down, he serves no purpose except making terrible jokes and the occasional Pun. Rosas is also filmed with more helpful and charming talking animals, making him seem like a needless addition. His contribution to the soundtrack is also subpar at best and irritating at worst.
