An RP on NationStates created by Finorskia, based on Strike Witches, in which various NationStates players put their countries up against a Neuroi invasion.
On January 29, 2013, a mysterious black cloud appeared off the east coast of Finorskia. From it came a black fighter plane that used beam weapons to inflict considerable damage before being shot down. Within 24 hours, the truth was known: the Neuroi had returned.
Red Shadows contains examples of:
- Actual Pacifist: Finorskia dismantled its nuclear arms prior to the main story, and is strictly neutral in international affairs.
- Church Militant: Two of these occupy Japan: the Sovereign Order of Mitakihara and the Grand Holy Haruhiist Empire of Imota.
- Cool Boat: The Civil Aid Army's flagship Hope for Life is a Nimitz-class carrier that's been stripped of all armament and had its medical facilities expanded.
- Enemy Mine: Minroz has clashed with both Imota and Hetland over territory, but all three nations agree that the Neuroi must be stopped.
- Extreme Omnivore: Deus, who is capable of eating anything and willing to eat everything. He has an especially bad craving for magic.
- Fantasy Counterpart Culture: A lot of the nations are based on real ones.
- Karlsland is the German Empire.
- Finorskia is a very big Switzerland.
- Hetland is a very militarized Mongolia.
- Imota is Imperial Japan.
- Minroz is a fusion of Imperial China and the Soviet Union.
- The Fundamentalist/General Ripper: Imota's Grand High Priestess is an unstable, xenophobic nutcase just barely kept in check by the Empress.
- Government Conspiracy: Imota's Majokakushi program keeps witches sequestered from the rest of society, officially to prevent their powers from being abused and sparking a repeat of the Warring States period, but really to ensure that no one else has the power to overthrow the government.
- Knight Templar: Some of Homura's most elite Puella Magi took to Madoka worship a bit too seriously.
- The Medic: Finorskia's Civil Aid Army is this to everyone. They go to combat zones around the world and treat the sick and injured, regardless of affiliation or ideology.
- Military Mashup Machine: The Minrozian military is the most notorious of this trope.
- Nightmare Fuel/Buzzsaw Jaw: Deus. Played straight with a healthy does of Eldritch Abomination
- Powered Armor: Hetland's witch force is equipped with these instead of strikers.
- Private Military Contractors: Hetland's army is generally not used for fighting its own wars but are rented out to other nations.
- Schizo Tech: Minroz's infrastructure is the weird mix of 19th, 20th and 21st Century, with the dash of Magic and Sci-fi.
- Space-Filling Empire: Not as serious as most, but based on the countries that are painted on the map, it seems the case. As artist Konigsritter/Wolfenium (both the artist for the map and the roleplayer for Mitakihara) bluntly put:-Konigsritter: I feel like I'm drafting the Versailles Treaty...
- State Sec:
- The Ministry of State Security and Intelligence of Minroz, also known as the Guoanbu. The most enigmatic organisation in the Empire that only the Emperor and his Inner Circle are privy to their secrets. Their troops alone numbered over 1 million, armed with its own tanks, aircraft, and ships.
- Imota's Imperial Household Agency is extremely secretive, officially controls all aspects of Imota's witch program, and has their own intelligence, surveillance, information warfare, and research and development arms, as well as a dedicated fleet of armored vehicles, aircraft, and ships.
- Imota's Grand High Priestess has the New Sakura Order, a hand-picked, fiercely devoted cadre of witches who carry out her orders and whose existence is not known even to the Empress.
- Vestigial Empire: Minroz. While still the biggest in terms of land area, the losses of Mongolia to Hetland and Taiwan to Imota were severe blows to national pride, and in colonial territories it has held, poverty and rebellions are rampant. Despite all this, Minroz remains one of the most powerful countries in the world.
