Films — Live-Action

  • Arrival also ends with a woman having a flashback to the day that she agreed to marry her husband. Just like in the novel, the last line of the film is "Yes". For bonus points: the central couple in Ulysses also lost a child at a tragically young age.
  • Before Sunrise: Most of the movie takes place on June 16th, which, of course, is Bloomsday.
  • Molly's Game has the title character being mistaken for Irish as Molly Bloom is also the name of Leopold's wife.
  • Only Lovers Left Alive: Adam uses the name "Stephen Dedalus" while going to Tangier.
  • The Producers named Leo Bloom after the protagonist of Ulysses.
  • Topkapi: Simpson lost his British citizenship because he was caught smuggling pornography. When questioned about it by the Turkish secret police, he handwaves that by citing the recently unbanned Joyce, as Ulysses earned much controversy for obscene material.

Literature

  • Turtles All the Way Down mentions a moment in Ulysses where a character asks the author to be written out.
  • In Rubbernecker, Meg volunteers to read to the comatose Mrs Deal. She begins with Ulysses, a book she's always meant to read, but doesn't like it and switches to The Da Vinci Code instead.

Music

  • Franz Ferdinand has both "40'", a possible reference to the Forty Foot cliff where the book opens, and Tonight is a Concept Album about a man going on a wild night of partying with some inspiration from the book, down to the first track being "Ulysses".
  • Jefferson Airplane wrote a Filk Song based on the book, "Rejoyce".
  • Kate Bush's has a Filk Song centered on Molly Bloom, "Out Of the Sensual World", which even quotes her ending monologue about the joy and pleasure of life.
