  • I'm Gonna Git You Sucka: John Slade's theme music is the theme from Shaft.
Jack Spade: Who are these guys?
John Slade: They're my theme music. Every good hero should have some.
  • Pulp Fiction: Jules' wallet has "Bad Motherfucker" written on it, in homage to the Shaft theme song.
  • Undercover Brother: A clip of Shaft is used during the opening narration, along with other black pop culture.

Live-Action TV

  • NewsRadio has referenced the movie a couple of times:
    • In the first season episode "Big Day", Dave learns that every year, Jimmy gives out bonuses of $400 to everyone except for one person who will get $3,000, and one person who gets nothing, or as Jimmy calls it, "The Shaft". Everyone else assumes Matthew will be the one who gets nothing, leading to this exchange.
Bill: Joe, who's the black undercover dick who's a sex machine with all the chicks?
Joe: Why, I believe that would be Shaft, Bill.
Bill: Mmm-hmm. And who's the cat who won't cop out when there's danger all about?
Joe: Once again, Bill, you are referring to Shaft. You know, they say Shaft is one bad mutha-
Matthew: Just shut up, you guys.
      Jimmy: What're you guys doing?
Bill: We're just talking about Shaft.
      Jimmy: I can dig it.
    • In the third season episode "Complaint Box", Dave puts out a complaint box for others in the office, and naturally, one of the complaints contains the lyrics of the theme song (to which everyone else yells out, "Shaft!").
  • Sesame Street: "Cookie Disco" is a parody of the theme.
  • Veronica Mars: In the first season episode "Clash of the Tritons", Wallace claims he confronted a kid about a fake ID like Shaft, to which Veronica replies, "Shut your mouth!"
  • The Wire: In the third season premiere episode "Time After Time", when Carver and Herc drive after some drug dealers, Herc puts the theme from Shaft on in the car.
