Anime & Manga

  • Two members of the Higashikata family in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: JoJolion reference Nat with their Stands. Joshu's Stand is named Nut King Call, as the Japanese Romanization of Nat "King" Cole can be pronounced the same way as it. Tsurugi's Stand, on the other hand, is called Paper Moon King, which is a portmanteau of both Nat's nickname and his famous rendition of "It's Only a Paper Moon".

Films — Live-Action

  • In As Good as It Gets, after Melvin has blown it with Carol, as he's driving her and Simon back home, he pulls out a CD he's marked "For Emergencies Only", and it plays Nat King Cole's version of "(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons", but because Carol is still angry at Melvin, she asks him to turn it off. Reluctantly, he complies.
  • In The Ref, in an effort to calm things down after dinner, Gus decides to put on some music, and when Gary suggests Nat King Cole, Gus agrees.
  • In Zebrahead (1992), Zack's dad recommends Nat King Cole as music for a romantic seduction.

Literature

  • In Language Arts, Charles hears Cole singing "That Sunday, That Summer" on the neighbors' radio.

Live-Action TV

  • Cold Case: In "Pin Up Girl", the melody exit is Cole's "Can't I?"
  • Interview with the Vampire (2022): The official trailer contains an eerie rendition of Cole's "Nature Boy".
  • On Living Single episode "Singing The Blues", when discussing an open mike night at a club they frequent, Overton mentions Kyle's singing talent by referring to him as "Nat King Kyle".
  • Married... with Children:
    • Their first Christmas Episode "You Better Watch Out" ends with a cover of Cole's version of "The Christmas Song".
    • In "The Worst Noel", Al and Peg express enjoyment at the kids giving them a record of "The Christmas Song" which they then play, only for it to begin skipping after the "Chestnuts roasting..." part (likely due to a combination of the kids dropping the jukebox it came from and the show Writing Around Trademarks).
