It might not have been the best idea for Doomguy to send another 'Guy' to cover for him.
Being one of the most iconic video games of all time, it's not surprising that pop culture has made its fair share of references to Doom.

Comic Books
  • In a The Simpsons comic, the Springfield Universe Nerds create a game very similar to Doom called DUMB

Films — Live-Action

  • Naqoyqatsi includes a clip from Doom.
  • The Sheriff and his deputies from Wild Hogs have training that consists in its entirety of having played Doom.

Live-Action TV

  • Mystery Science Theater 3000 made a few references to the game:
    • Mike Nelson says that in his job all he did was play Doom.
    • In the episode skewering Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell, Mike remarks that a particularly empty gothic-looking scene "is like playing Doom with no monsters or opponents."
  • In an episode of Friends, Chandler suggests playing Doom while using his laptop to help Ross.

Video Games

  • ANNO: Mutationem: At Noctis City, there's an arcade game found in an alley called "Invincible" that has the cover art of Doom featuring Doomguy.
  • Borderlands 3 has a Jakobs Shotgun called "Hellwalker", named after (one of many of) the Doom Slayer's nickname given to him by the demons. When shot, it plays a chord from 2016's "BFG Division".
  • The mobile Rogue Like game Dead Shell is a Whole-Plot Reference to Doom, and the base character is a guy in green kevlar armor with a blue faceplate.
  • Duke Nukem 3D includes a dead space marine that looks very similar to Doomguy in a secret area in E1L3. When examined, Duke Nukem says "Hmmmm, that's one doomed space marine".
  • The title screen of Dungeons of Dredmor is a parody of the first game's box art.
  • In Enter the Gungeon, the Marine is effectively a blue Doomguy, with his stance in the Versus Character Splash emulating his stance in the original cover art. His backstory is also highly reminiscent of Doom, with his final level being to fight off an otherworldly horror.
  • In Evolve Idle after building a marine garrison on Mars and activating the world collider you'll get occasional reports about how a portal to Hell was opened but a lone space marine wearing green armor was able to somehow stop the demonic invasion.
  • Gauntlet Legends: The Archer's level 3 Turbo Attack is called the BFG.
  • Goddess of Victory: NIKKE has Elegg, a Nikke who is deeply obsessed with the fictional video game BOOM, to the point of trying to install it on random devices. Her weapon, Boomstick, also takes design cues from the 2005 movie's rendition of the BFG9000.
  • Hi-Fi RUSH: One of Chai's special attacks is called "Rip and Tear", where he conjures a pair of spectral claws before throwing them at his enemies like boomerangs.
  • The Shareware Demo episode of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 has a typeface and title card that parody the Doom II boxart, with Big Bad Devan Shell in place of the Cyberdemon and The Hero Jazz, giving an odd look to the player, in place of the Doomguy.
  • A Captain Ersatz of the comic book version of Doomguy appears as a boss fight in Kingdom of Loathing's Zombie Master challenge path.
  • Minecraft's random title screen captions include "idspispopd!", "MAP11 has two names!" and "Phobos anomaly".
  • Muppets Inside features a parody of Doom called Kitchens of Doom, where the Swedish Chef takes on evil vegetables with kitchenware.
  • Various phones in PAYDAY 2 display the text "idKFa12321".
  • PAYDAY 3: Joy may call an Overkill Weapon "[her] very own BFG" upon picking one up.
  • Piratez: There's a rare faction called Dark Ones that is entirely composed of Doom creatures. Their place in the world is ambiguous at best, but possibly linked to psionics.
  • Quake II introduces a new weapon called BFG10K, which is a weapon that takes its time to load a huge particle blast which launches lasers towards an nearby enemies.
  • Quake III: Arena adds the Plasma Gun to its weapon roster, the Doomguy as one of the selectable skins, and a Distaff Counterpart called Crash as well as another Doomguy clone called Phobos, named after Phobos Base, where the first episode of Doom takes place. Furthermore, the map House of Pain contains the Icon of Sin as a wall decoration.
  • A Doomguy bobblehead appears in Rage (2011) as a collectable.
  • Serious Sam 3: BFE adds several enemies that are rather similar to those from classic Doom - the Cloned Rifleman and Shotgunner mirror the Zombieman and Zombie Sergeant, the Scrapjack is basically a Mancubus wearing pants, and the Khnum is heavily inspired by the Baron/Hell Knight. Multiplayer here and in the earlier HD revision of Serious Sam: The Second Encounter also adds the "Canned Cain" player model, who is a near carbon copy of the Doomguy. Interestingly, almost all of these are the result of Croteam actually being approached to assist in the development of what became the 2016 Doom, with Canned Cain and the Khnum model, at the very least, originating from the technology demo they made in their bid to create it - the latter's original model file was even titled "BaronOfHell.lwo" because it was, presumably, supposed to be the Baron of Hell.
  • Serious Sam VR The Last Hope introduces a new enemy called Kalopsy, modelled after the Cacodemon.
  • In Soldier of Fortune II, a PC displays the Doom title screen.
  • Starbound has the Doomcannon, whose sprite clearly resembles that of the BFG's. As a nod to the weapon's usage of 40 energy cells per shot, both the Doomcannon's primary and secondary abilities use 40 energy per second/shot.
You'll never be doomed with this handy space helmet.
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate adds a Doomguy costume for the Mii Gunner.
  • In Tomb Raider III, construction workers in blue suits appear with an image of the lost soul appearing on their back.
  • The PC version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 includes Doomguy as a playable character. Amusingly, he has maximum speed but minimum jump stats, referencing Doomguy's ability to run super fast but not jump.
  • When picking up a chainsaw in the original Unreal Tournament, the game says "It's been 5 years since I've seen one of these", referencing the length between the releases of Doom II and UT
  • Virtual Springfield includes a minigame that parodies Doom, where Apu fights off bullies with a broom, shotgun, and BFG-esq weapon.

Web Animation

  • In the Homestar Runner cartoon "Jibblies 2", Pom Pom dresses as a Cacodemon for Halloween. After he gets the Jibblies, the costume changes to be similar to the Cacodemon's firing animation.
