Recap / Yu Gi Oh VRAINS Ep 91 Proud Maiden

Go To

Bohman has grown even stronger through his various battles. Using his evolved Hydradrive monsters, he drives Blue Maiden into a corner. However, Blue Maiden's conviction remains unbroken. She refuses to give up, and keeps on fighting. What kind of tactic will she use?!

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: Akira snaps Blue Maiden out of her Heroic BSoD when she initially believes she can't work around the Sadistic Choice invoked on her by Bohman.
  • Heroic BSoD: Blue Maiden is left helpless when she's unable to work around Bohman's first attempt to invoke a Sadistic Choice on her. She quickly gets out of it, however, after Akira dissuades her from relenting.
  • Hoist by Her Own Petard: As Bohman points out, Blue Maiden already lost the moment she destroyed "Tesseract Hydradrive Monarch", and her attempt to fully negate all damage from its final attack is insufficient to keep her in the game.
  • It Has Been an Honor: Aqua compliments Blue Maiden on a well-fought battle despite knowing she couldn't defeat Bohman, and is happy to have been her partner.
  • Morton's Fork: Even if Blue Maiden didn't revive "Crystal Heart" and use "Crown Tail" to halve the damage she takes from the battle between "Tesseract Hydradrive Monarch" and "Wonder Heart", she would've lost the Duel either way.
  • Pet the Dog: After defeating Blue Maiden, Bohman lets her meet with her brother one last time, despite never getting the opportunity to see Haru off one last time himself.
  • Sadistic Choice: Repeatedly invoked by Bohman.
    • The first time he forces Blue Maiden to send a Monster she controls to the GY so "Tesseract Hydradrive Monarch" can make another attack, she gets around this by banishing all of her Monsters.
    • When Bohman revives "Tesseract Hydradrive Monarch", however, he forces "Wonder Heart" to unequip all Monsters equipped to it and send them to the GY, one by one, until "Tesseract Hydradrive Monarch" eventually destroys "Wonder Heart", forcing Blue Maiden to bring out "Crown Tail" and "Crystal Heart". Unfortunately for Blue Maiden, the battle damage she attempts to negate via "Crown Tail" is insufficient to keep her in the game, and thus loses to Bohman.
  • Together in Death: After saying their last goodbyes to each other, Blue Maiden and Aqua are both terminated, but not before the former and Akira see each other one last time (courtesy of Bohman).
  • Villain Respect: Bohman respects Blue Maiden for not giving up till the end even when she knew she couldn't defeat him.
  • The Worf Effect: Blue Maiden is terminated by Bohman to establish the threat the latter poses as a to-be next-generation Ignis.
