Recap / Yu Gi Oh VRAINS Ep 73 Light Blade That Slices Despair

Go To

During his Duel with Playmaker, Bowman activates Storm Access and obtains a new Hydradrive. Playmaker is then inflicted with heavy damage. Ai then tells Playmaker that he has prepared something in advance just in case. In order to turn things around, Playmaker bets everything on Ai's "secret weapon"!

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Critical Hesitation Blunder: Bohman could have activated "Hydradrive Monarch's" Effect when the Cyberse Tokens were first summoned, before "Cyberse Wicckid" was summoned, but he holds off on using the effect due to curiosity about the type of card Ai and Playmaker have obtained, effectively costing him the duel. It's notable that even with this key misstep, Bowman still walked away with a DRAW. Assuming Bohman's dice roll would have landed on LIGHT (since the Cynet Tokens are LIGHT), Bohman had a 5/6 probability of NOT landing on LIGHT.
  • Enemy Mine: Ryoken gave Yusaku a program that would protect Yusaku from being attacked by Lightning like how Bohman attacked Jin on the grounds that the enemy of his enemy is his friend.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: Having lost sight of Jin and Lightning on top of getting swarmed by hordes of Bits and Boots, Soulburner and Flame abstain from confronting them directly and instead quickly log out of LINK VRAINS.
  • No-Sell: "Hydradrive Monarch's" Effect activating for the second time would've costed Playmaker the Duel, had it not been for the Link Summoned "Cyberse Wicckid" preventing itself and all Cyberse Monsters it points to from being affected by card Effects.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The ensemble of Bits and Boots swarm Soulburner, distracting him enough to allow Jin and Lightning time to escape out of Soulburner's sight. Soulburner is left with little choice but to log out of LINK VRAINS.
  • Taking You with Me: Invoked by Bohman. He forces a DRAW between him and Playmaker by banishing "Hydradrive Scabbard", halving the damage he takes from "Quantum Dragon's" attack, and inflicting the same amount of damage to his opponent.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Playmaker's Skill is upgraded to Neo Storm Access, which allows him to acquire a random Cyberse Extra Deck Monster of any type, not just a random Cyberse Link Monster. He also performs a Synchro Summon, adding it to his arsenal.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Bohman forces a DRAW between him and Playmaker, and vows to settle their battle elsewhere for another day.
  • Wham Line: Playmaker announcing that he is activating an upgraded version of his Skill.
Playmaker: I activate my skill, Neo Storm Access!
  • Wham Shot: Playmaker Synchro Summoning "Cyberse Quantum Dragon".
