Go To

Revolver is driven into a corner by Windy's skillful Dueling. Windy's malicious nature has also become even more apparent during the Duel. Having learned of the Ignis's motive and determined to fulfill his father's wishes, Revolver decides to use some new tactics against Windy!

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Armor-Piercing Question: Having shown the truth behind the Ignis's motives, Revolver questions Playmaker as to how he can find a way for humanity and the Ignis to coexist. A speechless Playmaker offers no reply.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Defied. Even though Revolver is left with only 100 LP thanks to "Bahamut Bomber" shaving off his LP, he doesn't relent, as that amount of LP is more than enough for Revolver to continue the Duel to the very end (and subsequently defeat Windy).
  • Gaslighting: Windy constantly brings Revolver's relationship with his father, Kogami, into question, claiming that Kogami never had any faith in his son to begin with. Revolver doesn't let Windy's taunts faze him, however, and hits back by saying that Windy is incapable of comprehending Revolver and Kogami's relationship.
  • Heal Thyself: In addition to dealing damage to Windy equal to the amount of Effect Damage Revolver took (3000), "Speedburst Dragon" also restores Revolver's LP by half that amount.
  • The Good, the Bad, and the Evil: Following from the previous episode, the sides are further elaborated on.
    • Playmaker and Ai are still the good, but are joined by Soulburner and Flame who also desire peace between humanity and Ignis.
    • Revolver and the Knights are still the bad, though it's made clear they are only out to terminate the Ignis themselves on Kogami's behalf. Spectre even tries to convince Soulburner to sever his ties with Flame once he learns the truth about the Ignis.
    • Windy and Lightning are the Evil, though their depravity is further explored.
      • Windy caused his partner to suffer an accident that injured if not outright killed him, and doesn't hesitate to gaslight Revolver.
      • Lightning is revealed as Haru and Bohman's leader, and that the shadowy figure he used to lead them is composed from his partner's consciousness enslaved. His partner is Jin.
  • I Gave My Word: While Flame was initially suspicious about Spectre offering to escort Soulburner to the area where Revolver and Windy are Dueling, Spectre does so without pulling any tricks on him.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: After Windy is defeated, the Lieutenants of Hanoi proceed to terminate him by impaling him with spikes... only to be saved from destruction at the very last minute by Lightning.
  • I Warned You: Spectre intends to show Soulburner the true colours of the Ignis by escorting him to where Windy and Lightning are, and threatens to eliminate Soulburner if he has no second thoughts even after he learns of the truth behind the Ignis's motives. Left with little choice, Soulburner reluctantly agrees to follow Spectre.
  • Kick the Dog: Revolver reveals that Windy was directly responsible for an accident which crippled his partner in some way. Windy gloats that he caused the accident because he no longer needed his partner.
  • Loophole Abuse: Just like Bohman did during his Master Duel against Playmaker, Windy activates Storm Access in a Master Duel (after his LP was lowered to below 1000) and acquires "Stormrider Bahamut Bomber", to Revolver's shock.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Lightning attempts to lock up Soulburner and Flame in a Duel Program like he and Windy did to Playmaker and Ai, but Flame negates it with the program (which he dubs "Expect Protection") given to him by Kusanagi.
  • Meaningful Name: The episode title alone indicates the reintroduction of Synchro Summoning in the franchise (as "Tuning" in the context of the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise refers to Synchro Summoning), courtesy of Revolver.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Windy freaks out as Revolver's "Borreload Savage" delivers the finishing blow, which costs Windy the Duel.
    • Playmaker, Soulburner, and Kusanagi are all shocked to find out that Jin is revealed to be the human partner of Lightning.
  • Power Nullifier: Revolver removes a Borrel Counter from "Borreload Savage" to negate the activation of "Bahamut Bomber's" Effect.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Windy loses his cool and snaps at Revolver after the former takes 3100 damage from the latter's counterattack (from "Speedburst Dragon's" Effect, and it battling Windy's "Rockbuster"). He also becomes vehemently pissed off after the Lieutenants of Hanoi inform Revolver that they effortlessly decimated the Echoes guarding the entrance to Windy's palace.
  • The Reveal: Several points about Windy and Lightning are revealed:
    • Windy is revealed to have sought out his partner. Unlike Flame however, he did so with the intent of getting rid of him.
    • Lightning is revealed as Haru and Bohman's leader, and that his partner is Jin, hence why he had his conscious data stolen.
  • Wham Shot:
    • Revolver performing the first on-screen Synchro Summon in VRAINS, with him Synchro Summoning "Borreload Savage Dragon".
    • The revelation of Lightning's partner, i.e. Jin Kusanagi.
