Duel Academy celebrates Duel Monsters Spirit Day.
- Awesome, but Impractical: Chazz's XYZ Dragon Cannon costume. It looks cool, but he can barely move around in it.
- Breather Episode: Set after the reveal that Professor Banner is connected to the Shadow Riders and with six of the Shadow Riders defeated.
- Continuity Nod: Bastion's costume is Amazoness Tiger.
- Designated Villain: In-universe, Jaden is this during the duel for fighting Dark Magician Girl.
- Fan Disservice: Dorothy dressed in the Dark Magician Girl costume.
- For Halloween, I Am Going as Myself: Dark Magician Girl passes herself off as a student in costume.
- Foreshadowing: Chumley is shown to be an excellent painter, which becomes important later on.
- Ms. Fanservice: Naturally Dark Magician Girl is this, which along with her cute appearance and bubbly personality endears her to most of the crowd during the duel.
- Rummage Sale Reject: Jaden's costume consists of Saggi the Dark Clown's hat, Celtic Guardian's shoulder pads, Gearfried the Iron Knight's shield (upside down no less), Breaker the Magical Warrior's armor and Makyura the Destroyer's boots.
- Ship Tease: During the ending it's hinted that Dark Magician Girl may have gained a crush on Syrus.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: In the dub, after Jaden wins the duel against Dark Magician Girl, he laments "it's not easy being the bad guy", and Alexis responds "sometimes the girls like the bad guys", before adding "I mean, so I've heard". This of course alludes to her own apparent crush on Jaden.
- Unwinnable by Design: Dark Magician Girl summons two Magician's Valkyria and with their special ability preventing the opponent from attacking any other spellcaster monsters, they can defend each other and essentially stop the opponent from attacking entirely. Jaden manages to work around this by using his Trap Card "Staunch Defender" to force the two Magician's Valkyria to attack him instead.
