With Chazz leaving Duel Academy, Jaden, Syrus, Alexis, Jasmine, and Mindy search for him, but get sidetracked by some literal monkey business.
- Artistic License – Biology: SAL/Wheeler and his family are called "monkeys" in both the Japanese and English versions... but they have no tail, which means they're actually apes.
- Attack! Attack... Retreat! Retreat!: In both the original and the dub, Jasmine is screaming, "Let me go!" until Wheeler climbs a tree hanging over a cliff, making her switch to, "Don't let me go!"
- Badass Teacher: Professor Banner and Pharaoh rescue the monkeys and students from the scientists trying to bring them back to the lab.
- Bad People Abuse Animals: The island scientists training Wheeler to duel. They take him from his home and family, make sure he doesn't make the same mistake twice and plan on taking the other monkeys on the island to experiment on as a twisted act of kindness so he won't miss his family if they're experimented on with him.
- Big Damn Heroes: The island scientists are stopped from the above scheme when Banner, a teacher (and thus authority figure) on the island, shows up and explains that he basically knows everything. This forces the scientists to let Wheeler go.
- Damsel in Distress: Jasmine is kidnapped by Wheeler.
- Dub Name Change: The monkey is named "SAL" for "Super Animal Learning". The dub changed it to Wheeler. Makes sense when you remember Kaiba owns Duel Academy.
- Mythology Gag: In the dub version of the original series, one of the most common ways Kaiba would insult Joey Wheeler would be by calling him a monkey. Now, an actual monkey is given Joey's last name.
- Put on a Bus: The episode begins with Chazz dropping out of the academy.
- Save the Villain: Minor example — Jaden and co. decide to look for Chazz to make sure he's all right despite the fact that he hasn't exactly been their friendliest classmate.
- We Named the Monkey "Jack": Wheeler in this case.
