The tag team duel continues.
- Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Chumley prays for Jaden and Syrus to win, even offering to give up grilled cheese for a week, saying he'll just fry them instead.
- All Your Powers Combined: Syrus defeats the Paradox Brothers by fusing Jaden's Elemental Hero Tempest with his UFOroid to summon UFOroid fighter which has their attack points combined and with Power Bond doubling it, they're able to take out the rest of the brothers' life points.
- Can't Get Away with Nuthin': While Jaden and Syrus are allowed to stay, Sheppard orders them to write a ten page essay (thirty in the Japanese version) for trespassing in the abandoned dorms.
- Change the Uncomfortable Subject: In the dub after Jaden and Syrus win, Alexis says she is just happy Jaden gets to stay, with Bastion commenting if she meant to say Jaden and Syrus. Alexis is flustered and says she is glad for Syrus too, and only said Jaden because she... before simply saying "moving on". This is meant to highlight her crush on Jaden.
- Exact Words: While Chancellor Sheppard agreed not expel Jaden and Syrus if they win the tag team duel, he never said they wouldn't be punished for for trespassing in the abandoned dorms. After they win the duel, he assigns them an essay about what they learned from their duel against the Paradox Brothers and why trespassing in the abandoned dorm was wrong.
- Loophole Abuse: The rules prohibit partners from discussing strategy with each other, so Jaden finds a way around this without directly talking to Syrus. He has Elemental Hero Tempest attack Dark Guardian with a boost from Skyscraper, despite knowing that Dark Guardian can't be destroyed by battle. In the very next battle between the two monsters, Jaden has to sacrifice Skyscraper to save Tempest, at the cost of him and Syrus being reduced to 200 life points. This was all meant to be a hint to Syrus, reminding him that even if a monster isn't destroyed by battle damage will still be inflicted.
- Wham Line: After Syrus manages to destroy Gate Guardian, the signature monster of the Paradox Brothers, they actually thank him and Jaden for it, since it allows them to summon the even more powerful Dark Guardian.
