Tropes in this episode:

  • Brick Joke:
    • Nearly a dozen episodes later, Lobo's severed pinky is still slowly growing in that quarry.
    • When Victor officially joins the Outsiders, Geo-Force says that he'll need a code-name, adding, "I believe that 'Hot Lava' is still available." Violet adds, "That's what's called an inside joke."
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • Ed teleports into the X-Pit to save his friends, only to find himself unable to teleport back out because the X-Pit is scrambling his ability to guide his teleportation.
    • Victor connects to Overlord in an attempt to get the Outsiders out of the X-Pit, only to immediately lampshade his mistake when he realizes that he's hacked a sentient machine and it knows he's there.
  • Engineered Heroics: Lex uses a mind-controlled Killer Frost to give Infinity Inc. some good publicity, allowing them to out-trend the Outsiders on social media.
  • Everything's Better with Rainbows: Violet gains a rainbow aura when she overcomes the effects of the Ghost Dimension in order to heal the damage caused by the Anti-Life Equation.
  • Good Feels Good: After Victor helps save the day, Beast Boy and the others eagerly offer him a place in the Outsiders, but Conner advises that it should be Victor's decision. Victor, realizing that he enjoyed the feeling of fighting for a greater cause, joins up and takes the code name Cyborg.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Victor is impaled by a spear thrown by Overlord. However, since it's a mental construct inside Overlord's mind, Victor realizes that physical wounds mean nothing and simply wills himself to be better.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Beast Boy laments leaving Victor behind, convinced that he and Violet were lost forever. Immediately after he says that, boom tubes carrying Victor, Violet and the other returned heroes materialize behind him.
  • Let's Fight Like Gentlemen: After trapping the Outsiders in the X-Pit, Gretchen generates a protective cube around herself and Beast Boy so she can beat him senseless as a lesson.
  • Metronomic Man Mashing: Gretchen does this to Beast Boy while he's in snake form.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: Cyborg introduces a number of new abilities at the beginning of the episode which, between having the Father Box's soul purged from his body and coming closer to accepting his nature, he has only just begun to utilize freely.
Wonder Girl: Okay, since when can you do that?
Cyborg: First time. Doing a lot of stuff for the first time these days...
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Granny devolves into a childish tantrum when Halo overpowers her.
  • The Reveal: Granny Goodness created Gretchen Goode through the use of an Apokaliptan device that separated them into two beings. When the device is destroyed, Gretchen teleports back to Granny and the two are forcibly and painfully merged.
  • Spanner in the Works: Cyborg, in one swoop, destroys Granny's doppelganger, records footage exposing her, frees Violet from her control and saves the universe from the Anti-Life Equation.
  • Tempting Fate: Victor declares the warehouse to be safe because there are no heat signatures, though to his credit he then repeats "safe" with Air Quotes because he's savvy enough to know that it rarely ever plays out as such. Sure enough, Gretchen is waiting for them to enter the building.
  • Vagueness Is Coming: Granny warns Halo that something much worse is coming and Violet would have been better off letting everyone be controlled by the Anti-Life Equation. Violet refuses to hear it and blasts her.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Granny has a SPECTACULAR one when a.) Cyborg frees Halo and b.) they turn the tables on her.
