Go To

The Monks find the Mind Reader Conch, a Shen Gong Wu that allows its user to overhear the thoughts of others. However, when each of the Monks use the Conch, they hear some unflattering things about themselves from their teammates- creating a fallout that Jack uses to attack and rob the temple.

Tropes

  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: Jack's little cousin Megan isn't the least bit scared of Wuya. Openly calling her ugly witch, demanding she do tricks knowing Wuya can't actually do anything (except look ugly).
  • A House Divided: The monks' friendship is strained in this episode.
  • I Will Show You X!: When Kimiko first uses the Mind Reader Conch, she's able to pick up Jack's thoughts.
Jack: Kimiko has the Mind Reader Conch, this'll be easy. No upper body strength.
Kimiko: (to the others monks) We've got unwanted company. (to Jack) And I'll show you real upper body strength!
  • Jerkass to One: Megan is reasonably nice to the monks and Dojo, but an utter brat to Jack and Wuya. Even Jack's robots receive kinder treatment than them.
  • A Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Read: The reason why the monks' friendship is strained in this episode is because of the bad things the others thought about each other, which they heard through the Mind Reader Conch. During the Show Down, the Shen Gong Wu is used by Jack and they use its power against him, thinking bad things about Jack that annoy him.
  • Once an Episode: The "Cry Uncle!" Xiaolin Showdown pitting Omi against Jack for the bag of stolen Wu, the loser being the first to say "Uncle", with Omi's Silk Spitter versus Jack's Mind Reader Conch; Omi wins after the monks turn the Conch's mind-reader power against Jack, distracting him and undermining his confidence, allowing Omi to kick him off from a great height and string him up in Silk Spitter webbing, leading Jack to cry "Uncle! Uncle!"
  • Onion Tears: The day after the monks secretly read each other minds, they are seen sniffling with tears running down their eyes. The full frame reveals them cutting onions.
  • Spoof Aesop: To help mend fences, Master Fung explains that by pointing out their shortcomings, they can help the others grow. Clay's takeaway is that they "should thank each other for the insults."
  • What the Hell, Hero?: After Omi (rather bluntly) states to Raimundo's face that he still doesn't totally trust him, Clay calls him out on it, claiming it's "lower than a snake's belly button."
