Distraught with grief over the loss of Gabrielle, Xena travels to Siberia and the Amazon Land of the Dead to find her friend.
Tropes
- Call-Forward: Alti predicts that neither Xena nor Borias will name their child.
- The Cameo: Hades has a brief scene in which he tells Xena that Gabrielle's soul is not with him.
- Demonic Possession: Alti possesses the Berserker's horse.

- Dramatic Irony: Borias (who would later in the chronology be dubbed the greatest friend of the Centaurs) is negotiating with a tribe of Amazons, the most persistent enemy of the Centaurs. To add to the irony, he is explicitly doing this to counter any future clashes the army might have with Centaurs.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Borias is a warlord out for profit, but he is trustworthy and makes good on his deals. Xena also notes that he has zero tolerance for anyone harming children.
- Pragmatic Villainy: Borias is primarily interested in cutting a deal with these Amazons to offset the Centaurs, which would make conquest everywhere between here and Greece much easier.
- Would Hurt a Child: Alti predicts Otere will take Xena's power one day, so she urges Xena to kill this helpless child now. Xena struggles with the idea of doing such a thing, but Borias entering puts a stop to it. Remembering this years later, Otere says she doubts Xena would've actually gone through with it.
