- Arbitrary Skepticism: Kitty calls Evan out for this when he dismisses the idea that her pyramid hat can increase brain power:Kitty: I walk through walls and you shoot bony spikes. What's not to believe?
- Brick Joke: Kitty wearing the pyramid hat to increase her brain power for a test. Near the end of the episode, she mentions that she aced the test to Scott, but she found wearing was so ridiculous that she eventually got rid of it. It was implied to be something of a Magic Feather anyway.
- Cool Teacher: The X-Men think Hank McCoy is awesome. You know, aside from the whole "turning-into-a-rampaging-beast" thing.
- Emerging from the Shadows: Hank/Beast comes out of the shadows at the end of the episode, revealing that he's been mode-locked.
- "I Know You're in There Somewhere" Fight: Evan tries this one on Hank/Beast by reciting literature passages.
- Phlebotinum Dependence: Hank suppresses the beast through a serum he created, but it's not working anymore.
- Resist the Beast: Hank spends the episode trying but failing to suppress his bestial instincts. He goes to create a serum again, but it makes things worse.
- Shape Shifter Mode Lock: Hank gets stuck as the Beast at the end of the episode, causing Xavier to hire him because he can't go back to the high school looking like that.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Kelly has become this, working late in his office without realizing that Hank will become the Beast to make an attack on him.
