Recap / What We Do In The Shadows S 5 E 4 The Campaign

Go To

After Sean is forced to drop out of his campaign for comptroller due to having too many DUI incidents, Colin Robinson takes over and ropes in his old friend Evie. Initially he is only running so he can use the debates to drain people, but then the Supreme Council of Energy Vampires forces Colin to run for real since his opponent, Barbara Lazarro, wants to put an end to bureaucracy, which is the main food source for energy vampires.

Meanwhile, Nandor tries to make a new friend at the gym now that Guillermo is avoiding him, and Nadja is asked by the people of Little Antipaxos to introduce them to her husband, whom she fears will embarrass her.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • The Bus Came Back: Evie, the energy vampire who uses sob stories to feed on people, returns this episode.
  • Election Day Episode: Colin Robinson's subplot involves his run for comptroller.
  • Epic Fail: In an attempt to impress his new Jewish friend Alexander, Nandor has Guillermo circumcise him. Unfortunately, his vampiric Healing Factor undoes it by the time he tries to show it off to Alexander.
  • Good Luck Charm: After his previous attempts to impress the community of Little Antipaxos fail, Laszlo decides to drop the act that he's Greek and admit he is British while bragging about his supposed skills and accomplishments. This causes everyone to think he is the current reincarnation of Vasilias ton chourounion; a spirit said to frequently reincarnate as a pompous, perverted, obnoxious overweight buffoon who brings good luck and good fortune to anyone in his presence.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Colin Robinson's face screams this when the council announces they will still show him their 543 slide presentation after he already agreed to seriously run for comptroller.
  • Pants-Free: Once running his campaign becomes too much for him to handle, Colin Robinson intentionally sabotages his campaign by invoking this trope during an online meeting with his voters, making them think he was sitting half nude behind his computer.
  • Produce Pelting: Laszlo is pelted with everything the people of Little Antipaxos can get their hands on when, in an attempt to impress them with a Greek song, he ends up singing a war song from an enemy country of theirs.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Nadja and Colin Robinson are both back in their old bodies following last episodes' body swapping.
