Urusei Yatsura: Only You is the first movie in the continuity of the 1981 Animated Adaptation of Urusei Yatsura. It is a Non-Serial Movie released on February 12, 1983, between episodes 58 and 59.

An ordinary day in Tomobiki is turned on its head when an envoy from an unknown alien world arrives, claiming that the time has come for Princess Elle de Rosenbach to claim her husband: Ataru Moroboshi! Although a furiously jealous Lum tries to prevent Ataru from going to see this mysterious "Princess Elle", Ataru is dead-set on seeing her... even though he insists he doesn't remember the first thing about her. He ultimately gets his wish... but comes to regret it, when he discovers that Princess Elle's idea of romance is even more screwed up than his own...

This film contains examples of:

  • Accidental Marriage: Ataru and Elle's Childhood Marriage Promise was made when a young Ataru beat Elle in a game of shadow tag, which is a marriage proposal on her planet. When they accidentally travel through time and see the event, it's discovered that Ataru actually didn't succeed, but merely lied that he had, which gives him a chance to "honestly" break the engagement off.
  • Childhood Marriage Promise: The crux of the plot; an alien princess whom Ataru made an Accidental Marriage with when they were both little kids returns to wed Ataru.
  • Call-Back: Lum's father mentions that he hasn't seen Ataru since the matchmaking incident. This is a reference to the story in chapters 87-90/ episode 22.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: Whilst Elle has been dreaming of marrying Ataru for over a decade, Ataru legitimately has no idea who she is util they meet face to face and she tells him their story.
  • Harem Seeker: Elle is obsessed with collecting handsome men as boyfriends. As in literally collecting them; once they profess love to her, she places them in cryogenic stasis and then puts them in a massive freezer-vault to "preserve their love for all eternity".
  • Heel Realization: After he learns what a man-eater Elle is and Ten calls him out on just how badly he treated Lum to get to Elle's side, Ataru admits he's been an asshole to Lum.
  • Idiot Ball: Ataru spends the first third of the movie trying desperately to get to the side of Elle, despite not remembering the first thing about her, on the off-chance that she might be a beautiful girl. Even if Lum's Stormtroopers did try to torture him, that's still a very stupid thing to do, but not inconsistent with Ataru's lechery.
  • Jerkass Ball: After escaping from Lum's ship with Elle's secret agent, Ataru starts gushing over how much he wants to be with Elle and badmouthing Lum... over an open microphone that is broadcasting every word he said to Lum, her parents, and her family's private fleet...
  • Ladykiller in Love: Whilst Elle has shamelessly collected over 100,000 handsome men as "boyfriends", her focus is entirely on wedding Ataru and being a wife to him, with her "boyfriends" instead being more like trophies for her to admire on the side.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Mendo decides to seduce Elle away from Ataru, much like he has done with Lum throughout the canon. Elle promptly attempts to cryo-freeze him like all her other "boyfriends".
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After receiving "The Reason You Suck" Speech from Ten, Ataru realizes that he is an idiot, who treated Lum like garbage, and starts crying.
  • Old Flame Fizzle: Elle has been swooning over Ataru for a decade. Ataru literally forgot she existed at all, and whilst initially smitten with her, he quickly turns on her in disgust after finding out about her harem/trophy collection.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Ten delivers one to Ataru while they are in the cell, the night before the wedding:
Ten: Tomorrow you're going to get married to that woman [Elle], but it's more like a condemned man's last night, isn't it? Even an idiot like you can understand that. Well, good riddance. This is your own punishment for mistreating Lum, the inevitable consequences for your prior misdeeds. It's good that for the rest of your life you'll be chained to that girl — better for Lum, better yet for the entire universe. I hope you're miserable! I hope you're suffering! I hope you're sad! Poor Lum felt the same way about you, you disgusting slimeball! That's all I have to say. Good night.
  • The Reveal:
    • Elle's harem.
    • Ataru and Elle's engagement is completely unjustified, as Ataru lied about winning the shadow tag game.
  • Status Quo Is God: Despite his admitting to himself that he loves Lum, and being smitten by the sight of her in a wedding dress, Ataru can't bring himself to go through with the ceremony and instead runs away.
  • World's Most Beautiful Woman: Princess Elle de Rosenbach is considered one of the most beautiful women in the universe. When her 100,000 trophy men are freed from her collection, rather than seeking revenge or trying to escape from the crazy women, they try to disrupt her wedding to Ataru in hopes that they can persuade her to choose one of them as her husband. Though it is implied that after the wedding is called off, at least some of them come to their senses and try to flee the planet, as she's seen ordering her underlings to recapture them.
