Recap / Ultraman Z Ep 6: The Man Returns!

Go To

A certain man has returned to Earth. His name is Riku Asakura, and he's the young man who transforms into Ultraman Geed. However, he's not the only one who has come to Earth. The Last Judgmenter Gillvalis, who once tormented Geed, has returned to Earth once again! Don't look away as our two brave heroes face down an unprecedented crisis!

Episode Tropes:

  • Book Ends: Both involving Ultraman Geed using a new form to combat Gillvalis — Ultimate Final (in Ultraman Geed The Movie: Connect The Wishes!) and Galaxy Rising (this episode). Matters also helped that it featured Ultraman Orb — Gai is also present in the battle against Gillvalis in the film and his Ultra Medal being one of the three components that make up Galaxy Rising.
  • Clipped-Wing Angel: Gillvalis' body is destroyed at the start of the episode and while it seemed to reformed it for the finale of the episode it was noted to not be completed. Do note that it still gave Geed and Z quite a fight, and required Yuka forcibly downloading a complicated equation into it through Windom just to give them the opening to destroy it.
  • Continuity Nod: The fact that Riku and Juggler met in the former's team-up film with Ultraman Orb and the appearance of Gillvalis in this episode is just the start of Riku tying up loose ends involving the Devil Splinters.
  • History Repeats: Zero lost access to his Ultimate Aegis upon arriving in Riku's universe after the Crisis Impact for the remainder of Geed, though this was circumvented through the New Generation Capsules, allowing him to assume Zero Beyond. Here, Riku's Geed Riser gets irreparably damaged before he could change to Ultimate Final while fighting the revived Gillvalis; though it was a timely arrival of Pega, who delivered the Z Riser and the Ultra Medals of Ginga, X, and Orb to Riku in order to access Galaxy Rising. Guess who created and gave Zero and Geed their power-ups: Ultraman Hikari.note
  • Mythology Gag: The episode titlenote  is analogous to Return of Ultraman.note
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Juggler suddenly drops the Hebikura persona at the sight of Gillvalis, considering that he previously encountered this mechanical monstrosity before.
  • The Reveal: As it turns out that the Devil Splinters are fragments of Ultraman Belial's genetic makeup and they came into existence as a result of sustaining wounds from various fights he endured, best exampled in a flashback scene of his fight against Ultraman Taro. Which probably explains the artifact in Kaburagi/Celebro's person and this is what revived Gillvalis in the first place.
    • Retcon: Surprisingly enough, the flashback of Belial's fight with Taro contradicts the very scene from Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends. In the film, Belial actually dodged Taro's Strium Ray. In this episode, he took damage all while Devil Splinters start spawning from his wounds.
  • Sinister Surveillance: Apparently Celebro can do this even in his pocket dimension.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Hebikura/Juggler making use of his position as captain to good use by informing the crew to get the hell out of the area as soon as Gillvalis appears.
Hebikura: Everyone run and evacuate the area! THAT'S AN ORDER!!!
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Despite Gillvalis being a superior artificial intelligence, it's systems can be overridden by uploading a complex mathematical formula into its core through Yoko and Windom. Doing so left Gillvalis defenseless, allowing Z and Geed to destroy it once and for all.
