Tropes

  • Antagonist Title: An episodic example as "Ruler of Shadows" is one of the titles Megalothor has.
  • The Cameo: Masamichi Hotta, a character originating from the spin-off voicedrama "Secret Origins of the Nursedessei" (streamed exclusively on Tsuburaya Imagination) makes an appearance here repairing the Nursedessei after it sustains damage from Megalothor's darkness.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends as Trigger and Trigger Dark set out to stop Megalothor once and for all.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Defied. Yuna sees the Eternity Core grow unstable and decides to sacrifice herself as Yuzare did millions of years ago when the Core first went out of control; but Akito stops her, telling her that she doesn't needs to follow in Yuzare's footsteps and that they can figure out a solution without sacrificing anyone.
  • Internal Reveal: Everyone in GUTS Select still in the dark about Kengo's identity is informed of the truth. Kengo also learns that Captain Tatsumi had figured out his identity already.
  • Mythology Gag: Megalothor in general is a big walking reference to both Gathanothor and Demonthor:
    • Like Gathanothor it starts to cover the world in darkness, intending to drown all light. It also makes the same noises at it when it talks with Carmeara's voice.
    • Like Demonthor, the face of its basis, Carmeara/Camearra is shown connected to the whole body by a series of tentacles/tendrils that seem to be merged into her skin. It also looks appropriately monstrous on the outside while having a humanoid figure inside its body.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: A subtle one happens when Ignis asks Shizuma why he would fight so hard to protect Earth after he figures out the latter is not native to this universe's Earth, given that he is an alien from a long-gone world who has likewise grown to care for Earth.
  • The Reveal: Kengo was born when his mother arrived at the Mars temple where Trigger sealed himself in and she was reached by his light, ever since she took care of him as if he was her own son. Thus also revealing Kengo had no father.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Several kaiju such as Pagos, Gomora, Telesdon and Astron get the hell out of dodge when Megalothor starts to cover the world in pure darkness, utterly afraid of the dark being's power.
  • The Unfettered: The episode solidifies Carmeara as one, she doesn't cares if the universe is destroyed as a result of her actions, until she gets what she wants: Trigger, she won't back down.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Akito tells Yuna that she's too important to him and other people to let her sacrifice herself to save the universe, insisting that her smile is key to making others smile as well.
