One drink too many emboldens the brothers to stand up to their controlling mother.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Public Confession: Alan and Charlie get so drunk that they blurt out their secrets to the taxi driver, unaware they're being filmed for "Taxi Cab Confessions".
  • Batter Up!: Judith chases a drunken Alan out of her house with a golfclub.
  • Black Comedy Cannibalism: Alan and Charlie are shocked when they disposed of Jake's dead pet guinea pig into the ocean. Only for the guinea pig to be devoured by a pelican.
Alan: Toss him into the ocean. Very clever.
Charlie: Who knew pelicans eat guinea pigs?

  • Black Comedy Pet Death: The death of Jake's pet guinea pig is Played for Laughs as Alan won't stop crying because of everything going bad in his life and compares himself to the pig. Then Charlie suggests they toss him in the ocean.
  • Brutal Honesty: Judith tells Charlie that she's not dating women or anyone and she threw out Alan because he was sucking the life out of her.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Alan and Charlie get drunk at their favorite bar Pavlov's to deal with the bad things in their life.
  • Driven to Suicide: Charlie tells Alan that their late father committed suicide to get away from their mother Evelyn. Alan disagrees, saying he died of food poisoning.
  • Fridge Logic: Alan debates this in the taxi while drunk.
Alan: I don't know how my wife is gonna be a lesbian? She hates oral sex. Hates it!
  • Freudian Excuse: The taxi cab driver informs Alan and Charlie that many phycologists agree that until the core maternal relationship is resolved, most men are doomed to repeat childhood patterns. Charlie tells to just drive.
  • The Food Poisoning Incident: Alan tells Charlie that their late father actually died of food poisoning. Charlie thinks that their late father might've known that the fish had gone bad but he kept eating it anyway.
  • Get Out!: After Alan took a sick Jake back to Judith's home and made them soup and sandwiches, Judith suggested that Jake takes his to go — by starting his car and throwing his sandwich into the backseat.
  • Hide Your Lesbians: For all the times Judith is believed to be gay, she isn't shown depicted on-screen with someone of the same sex romantically. This all turns out to be a big lie by Judith to spite Alan for alimony.
  • No Bisexuals: All assumption of Judith being gay goes out the window the minute she confesses she kicked Alan out because he was sucking the life out of her.
  • Nobody Calls Me "Chicken"!: After Alan calls him a chicken for being afraid of their mother, Charlie tells the taxi cab driver to drive by their mother Evelyn's place so they could tell her off.
  • Oh, Crap!: Alan and Charlie, when they awaken after their drunken night out and realized they signed a contract for a television show called Taxi Cab Confessions.
  • Ominous Pipe Organ: A small bit of sinister pipe organ music plays as Charlie and Alan arrive at their mother's house which is illuminated with red lights for ominous effect.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After Evelyn's seemingly apologizes to Alan and Charlie (though in reality, she was confused) and they decided that was good enough for them and leave.
  • Shout-Out: Charlie compares the helpful taxi cab driver to Dr. Phil when he gave them psychological advice on how to deal with their mother.
  • The Last Straw: Alan is able to handle Jake being sick and wanting to be with Judith instead of spending time with him. Then Jake's pet guinea pig dies and Alan bursts into tears.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?: Charlie and Alan's reaction upon waking up and learning that they drunkenly signed a contract for a taxi cab show.
