Recap / Tokyo Afterschool Summoners Chapter 10

Go To

Now that the three true main guilds have finally begun to make their move, the Summoners have come to conclusion that they must take initiative in the battle by infiltrating the Warmongers' base in Nerima with the aid of the mysterious R-19 and Jacob, the Aoyama Guild's Guildmaster, in order to sow distrust among their enemies, while also searching for Mr. Mononobe, who has vanished from everyone's sight and somehow into the enemy's hands.

Tropes:

  • All Your Powers Combined: This is ultimately the Geniuses' goal: knowing that the protagonist utilizes multiple Cutting rules to get around the "Representative defeats Exile" rule, they have Breke collect the Sacred Artifacts of the Representatives who have been defeated by the protagonist in order to become the ultimate weapon in combating them during the end game.
  • Debut Queue:
    • Tezcatlipoca, Shennong, Yasuyori, and Jacob were added to the Summon Banner for the chapter's release.
    • Horus, Tanetomo, Leanan Sidhe, and Cthugha were released during 2020 New Semester Part 1.
    • Teda, Balor, Nezha, Bael, and Daikoku were released during 2020 New Semester Part 2.
  • Eviler than Thou: By his own words, Mahakala claims that Tezcatlipoca is too soft, as he isn't really wishing to create a world of endless war, but to reunite with his long lost brother. According to Mahakala, his ideal world of destruction is more "true" than Tezcatlipoca's.
  • Heel–Face Turn:
    • After being reminded of the happy memories with his friends at Yoyogi through Jacob's World Pillar power, Yasuyori resigns from Warmongers to side with the protagonist. Tezcatlipoca complies with his wish.
    • Shennong also chooses to side with the protagonist after he repeatedly witnesses their courage and determination, and possibly because he senses the soul of Nuwa within them.
  • How We Got Here: The chapter starts with the protagonist being thrown in jail. When the prisoners ask how they got there, the story flashes back to a few days before.
  • The Needs of the Many: The world of El Dorado operates on the logic self-sacrifice for the greater good, with Tezcatlipoca and Quetzalcoatl going through many wars in order to expand and protect it, resulting in the former losing many of his body parts in the process while also being rendered the world's greatest hero. Denizens of the world would follow his philosophy by sacrificing themselves to him, believing it to be the greatest honor. However, when his youngest brother Xolotl was chosen to be the sacrifice, Quetzalcoatl confronted Tezcatlipoca, as not only was he against sacrificing Xolotl, but he was also full of sadness each time Tezcatlipoca lost a part of himself for others.
  • Not Brainwashed: The Warmongers' recruits all join the guild on their own will after being shown the memory of themselves killing their loved ones without being given any context, courtesy of Tezcatlipoca's World Pillar power.
  • The Reveal:
    • Tezcatlipoca confirms Xolotl's previous suspicion that the protagonist has the soul of their middle brother, Quetzalcoatl.
    • Hakumen's inner monologue confirms that the protagonist also has the soul of Nuwa, her former mistress from Hourai.
    • As revealed by Lil' Saloman, should the game be reset again, Mononobe will cease to exist.
  • You Have Failed Me: Because Tezcatlipoca broke the established rule between the Representative by softening up to the protagonist, 4 of the 7 Warmongers' Representatives vote to have him removed from the board, with Balor being their next target.
  • Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: At the end of the chapter, even though the protagonist successfully locates Mononobe's whereabouts within the Prison school, he is possessed and whisked away by Mahakala, who reveals his goal of a world of everlasting destruction so that final salvation for everyone can be reached.
