Recap / Tiny Toons Looniversity S 1 E 2 Give Pizza A Chance

Go To

The second episode of Tiny Toons Looniversity.

Buster, Plucky and Hamton discover that the insulation in their dorm room is made up entirely of practical joke snakes. Granny gives them the money to repair the wall, but Buster and Plucky cut corners. Upom discovering how much they have in common, they become best friends and decide to throw a pizza party with the rest of their budget. Meanwhile, Babs' different point of view on cleanliness greatly irritates Sweetie to the point where she ends her friendship with Babs.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Balloon Belly: Plucky and Buster end up with these after competing in a pizza eating contest.
  • Can't Get Away with Nuthin': It seems like the gang has managed to fool Granny into believing there was no wild party. Until she slams the door, completely undoing their work.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Coupled with Noodle Incident, Fifi once made a broissant: a mix between a beret and a croissant. Why? She wanted a buttery, crumbly hat.
  • Color Blind Confusion: It is revealed in this episode that Sweetie is colorblind. When she gets covered in pizza sauce, she says that she's covered in green glop, only for Babs to remind her that it's red.
  • Competition Freak: Plucky turns everything into a competition for the purpose of winning it, best exemplified in the first scene of this episode, when he and Buster compete to see how many trophies each other has.
  • Cutting Corners:
    • Acme Looniversity used practical joke snakes, left over from World War II, as insulation for the walls of Fudd Hall.
    • Buster and Plucky are given $100 to repair their dorm room wall, signing a waiver saying they agree to spend their money solely on maintenance. They proceed to poorly duct tape the wall and spend the remaining amount on a pizza themed party.
  • Disaster Dominoes: Granny’s been fooled into thinking there was no party. She closes the door, and this action causes the walls to crumble, the plumbing to go awry and pizza to spill everywhere. The nail in the proverbial coffin happens when Furrball opens a can of “peanut brittle”, which is actually full of joke snakes. This causes the entire room to cave in.
  • Duck!: This exchange occurs when the wall in Buster, Plucky, and Hamton's dorm room is about to break and all the paper snakes that Granny used as insulation are about to fly out.
    Plucky: Everyone, me!
    Everyone Else: Huh?
    Plucky: Duck!
  • Fair-Weather Friend: Averted big time. Not one single guest tries to dip out when the party destroys the dorm room. Instead, they band together to clean up the mess.
  • Feud Episode: Inverted with Buster and Plucky, who discover that they actually have a lot in common and become best friends. Played straight with Babs and Sweetie, whose differing views on cleanliness and hygiene clashes. The former pair are back to being frenemies, while the latter pair reconcile.
  • Fun with Flushing: During the cleaning montage, Plucky at one point flushes some cheese and pizza sauce down a toilet.
  • Gross-Out Show: While very mild compared to other cartoons of this genre, Sneezer's sneezes are considerably messier when one looks at his portrayal in the original 1990 show.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Hamton points out that Sweetie gets defensive, and she loses her temper over it.
  • Hated Item Makeover: In this episode's B-plot Sweetie is horrified when Babs cleans her (Sweetie's) side of their dorm room, starting a feud between the two.
  • Heroic BSoD: Hamton briefly goes through this when Buster becomes best friends with Plucky. It’s not out of jealousy, but out of a lack of purpose as there’s no conflict for him to mediate.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: Babs' response to how she feels about her fight with Sweetie.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • Not So Above It All: Fifi, who is shown to be graceful and feminine, excitedly cheers on Buster and Plucky as they have a pizza sauce race. In fact, she’s the one who waves the checkered flag to start it!
  • Obsessively Organized: Babs prefers for everything to be neat and tidy. In this episode, she shows that she has multiple labelled boxes, each filled with individually labelled label-makers.
  • Oh, Crap!: Hamton becomes a stuttering wreck in a panicked reaction to seeing Granny and Yosemite Sam lividly making their way to their dorm to investigate.
  • Perfectly Cromulent Word: Four to be exact.
    • “Pluster”: Plucky’s name for his and Buster’s best friendship.
    • “Restie” and “Boomie”: Babs' names for herself and Sweetie. The former is a blend of roommate and bestie, the latter is best friend and roomie.
    • “Broissant”: A cross between a beret and a croissant by Fifi.
  • Punny Title: This episode's title is a pun on the saying, "Give Peace a Chance".
  • Sudden Video-Game Moment: When Buster and Plucky get into a pizza-eating competition with each other, it plays out like a video game.
  • Trash of the Titans: In this episode, Sweetie is revealed to have been hiding garbage under her bed, and when Buster takes notice, he says that her side of her and Babs' dorm room looks like a bomb went off in it.
  • Visual Pun: When Buster, Plucky and Hamton attempt to repair the walls of their dorm room, Buster asks for some Duct tape. Plucky hands him a tape cassette that says "Plucky Unamped B-Sides". Buster is not amused.
  • Wild Teen Party: To be exact, a PIZZA party!
