Recap / 3Below S1 E12 "Last Night on Earth"

Go To

It's the last day of school and the last day Aja and Krel will be on Earth. Their hopes of making the last day the best are ruined when Zadra returns with terrible news.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Alien Arts Are Appreciated: It is revealed that the dolphin-noise music Krel had written was done under Stuart's advice to be "experimental." Amusingly, Stuart is the only one that appreciates it.
  • Before I Change My Mind: Once she exiles Varvatos, Aja tells him to leave the ship before she changes her mind about letting him live.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Aja and Steve share one as Krel and Eli kill goblins around them.
  • Big Eater: Aja and Krel casually scarf their plates of pancakes Stuart made for them in an instant.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": When Varvatos confesses to his part in Morando's invasion, an angry and hurt Krel shouts "Silence!" and points his serrator at him.
  • Break the Haughty: Three times. Not only does Aja exile Vex, she also strips him of his title and his weapon and tells him to leave before she changes her mind. Then Krel coldly tells him they don't need him. And finally, Zadra throws him out of the house and shuts the door on him.
  • Call-Back: Coach Lawrence says that he will miss his "star rope-climber" Aja.
  • The Cameo:
    • Mr. Strickler makes a non-speaking cameo among the crowd during the Battle of the Bands.
    • Jim appears in front of Aja and Krel... in his troll-hybrid form.
  • Cruel Mercy: Aja notes that Vex wants a glorious death, so she chooses to deny him it by exiling him to Earth as punishment, never to return to Akiridion-5 or to set foot on any other planet. She even says that Krell might not be able to kill him if he doesn't leave, but she will.
  • Dramatic Spotlight: After Vex is forcefully thrown out of the house in his human form, a spotlight appears over him before cutting to the next scene.
  • Even the Dog Is Ashamed: Averted; as Vex is thrown out of the house for his actions, Luug is the only one who has a sad look on his face before Zadra closes the door.
  • The Exile: Aja chooses to exile Vex to Earth.
  • Get Out!: Aja tells Vex to leave the Mothership by saying "Go away!"
  • Hero of Another Story: While the Tarrons get a few hits in, the big battle against Gunmar and Morgana in the Trollhunters finale is not exactly their number one priority.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Only a love-struck Aja likes Steve and Eli's contribution to the Battle of the Bands.
  • Internal Reveal: Aja and Krel learn that Vex is the traitor.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The look on Vex's face pretty much says it after he is kicked out of the house for his actions.
  • Please Kill Me if It Satisfies You: Vex doesn't shy away from Krel threatening to execute him for treason, even lifting his neck to make it easier for Krel. Aja talks Krel down.
  • Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure: Krel and Aja lose all respect they had for Vex when he confesses that he lowered the shields and allowed Morando to invade Akiridion-5. As a result, Aja exiles Vex to Earth... but at a very bad time when the Gumm-Gumm Army attacks.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • Krel spends the episode complaining about the lack of meaningful messages people are leaving in his yearbook.
    • While the Tarrons are running back to the house, Stuart accidentally knocks over a fence. The owner of the house yells at him to get off his lawn. Please note that there is a solar eclipse and a troll invasion happening at the moment.
  • Synchronous Episodes: Happens during the events of "The Eternal Knight"; Aja and Krel have no context for what's going on with the Gumm-Gumm invasion, but they also have their own entirely different battle going on.
  • Take That!: Stuart remarks that the Gumm-Gumms are nastier than any Earthling he had encountered, and he's been to Florida.
