Skarloey is working at the Wharf when he is startled after some pipes fall near him, and he has an accident with his trucks of flour, leading James to mock him. Skarloey sets off to collect the farmer's prize bull but feels pathetic even after helping Rusty and Duncan. When some logs race down a hill towards Rheneas, Skarloey races ahead and saves him by taking the blow himself, so Rheneas tells him he is brave after all for helping him, Rusty, and Duncan. This helps Skarloey pluck up courage at the Wharf and when the trucks try to play tricks on him, Skarloey quickly shuts them up, to the amazement of Thomas and James.
