Go To

Original Airdate (Twitch): September 29, 2021

Desperately needing a moment of respite after their encounters with the Pantomimes, the Unexpectables chance upon a carriage belonging to a familiar face, who turns out to be more powerful than they had originally realized. With another new ally in tow, the party then explores the dying realm of the Summer Queen, looking for the gate they need.

"No refunds."

  • At Least I Admit It: The fortuneteller outright admits that their tarot readings are a kind of scam, and the destinies they can predict are easily screwed. This puts them at odds with Kai, who was much more confident in its abilities as The Omniscient prior to current events.
  • Berserk Button: Esme is able to restrain herself and tolerate the fortuneteller's tricks, up until they start drawing her own fortune, reveals the Moon card, and makes some comments about her parentage. She instantly draws her weapon, and it's only due to Remy stepping in that she stands down and lets the tarot reading continue.
  • Bigger on the Inside: Entering the fortuneteller's carriage from a trapdoor on the underside, the Unexpectables end up in a room that seems larger than the carriage itself, with none of the carriage's other entrances visible.
  • Cliffhanger: The session, which leads to a month-long hiatus for Gobtober and Ravenloft Season 2, ends with the party encountering the undead husk of the Summer Queen, who claims to see right through them.
  • Fisher Kingdom: Panic decides to put their main bargaining chip, the spark of the Summer Queen, in a lantern while exploring the "Summer" realm of the Feywild. While the forest had become burnt and desolate since the Queen's passing, it returns to vibrancy when the flame's light is cast upon it, as well as repave the roads and other forms of restoration, and instantly withers again when the light is covered.
  • Genuine Human Hide: While navigating, the party finds a series of traps that utilize hair as rope. They manage to hide from the Redcap that set them, who double-checks their effectiveness with a severed human foot before returning to his mushroom village, which the party decides to avoid at all costs.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: In order to help them rest on the floor of their carriage, the fortuneteller offers the party vials of a potion. When they wake up later, they admit they weren't sure it would really work, as it was just made up of crushed bugs, and Panic has quite the reaction to that news.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Having just joined the Unexpectables in the previous episode, Esme doesn't completely understand the importance of the fortuneteller (Tio) being a fragment of LYS, but she does get the notion that it's important to the others.
  • Precision F-Strike: Kai absolutely detests having to rely on Tio in their current situation, to the point that one of its rhymes ends with "he lives in a carriage; this is bullshit!"
  • Screw Destiny: While reviewing the tarot readings they had given The Unexpectables when they first met so long ago, the fortuneteller remarks that not all of their predictions came true, and frames it as the Unexpectables fighting and winning against their fates.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: While trying to sneak aboard the fortuneteller's caravan for sanctuary, Task manages to silence an area to try and avoid detection from the Pantomimes. One of them ends up caught in the area of effect, and it's quickly revealed that they outright suffocate if unable to mimic something's sounds.
