Go To

Ned Flanders ends up falling in with the mob after a string of bad luck.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Homer is surprised that Flanders would do anything so stupid as to join the mafia, saying it seems more like the type of thing he would do. Everyone laughs at this a little too long, until Homer impatiently snaps at them to stop—before finally giving in and laughing himself, admitting, "Eh, it's funny."
  • Art Shift: The Couch Gag is animated in stop motion.
  • Call-Back:
    • Ned refers back to his career as Bart’s teacher as the beginning of his Humiliation Conga. Marge’s surprise at learning it references how it was a fairly minor Story Arc.
    • Homer and Marge let Ned hide out in the attic above their garage, first explored two seasons prior in "Manger Things."
  • Description Cut: Ned frees to his kids living a life of mischief and mayhem”, before we cut to Rod and Todd sitting on the couch, with the former chiding the latter for blinking.
  • Faux Horrific: Ned is horrified to see a fundraiser for the Democratic Party in his mail.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Flanders chooses to go along with Tony because he describes himself as “Sinister” as in left-handed, and an internet search made him seem legitimate.
  • Is It Something You Eat?: According to Abe, Homer thinks "PhD" is how you spell "food."
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When Ned reminds Marge he was a teacher at Bart’s school, he gives her the production code for the episode in question (CADF12), and hen clarifies that those were Bart’s grades and absences during his tenure.
  • The Reveal: It is revealed that Ms. Peyton is Bart's new teacher due to Ned getting fired for praying on school grounds.
  • Status Quo Is God: Downplayed. Ned only regains the Leftorium after having lost the store 8 seasons ago and the business 5 years ago.
  • Ugly Guy, Hot Wife: Lampshaded when Tony's goons bust into the Simpsons' attic, where Ned had been hiding out, and find no one but Homer and Marge.
Louie: No Flanders! And who knew fatso had such a hot wife?
Johnny Tightlips: Eh, it's a sitcom thing. King of Queens, Fred Flintstone, Timmy and Lassie. Such a beautiful dog.
