Go To

In a format-bending episode, the Simpsons are cast as a family who gained fame through Internet videos and are now rich influencers, with the tale of their drama and downfall being told through a series of YouTube videos by different characters.

Tropes

  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: All the Simpsons save Maggie suffer this to some degree after gaining internet fame. It's only upon being accidentally locked in a room with no phones or internet access that they're able to detox.
  • As Themselves: Bob The Drag Queen and Monét X Change play themselves in the ending.
  • ASMR Video: Patty and Selma do an ASMR video on where the Simpsons are now. Also plays as Fan Disservice because of how disgusting the sources of sounds are: Selma flicking a lice comb, Patty's iguana, and then Patty shaving her legs on-screen and in detail.
  • Canon Character All Along: Bart starts a prank channel with three funkily-dressed young hypemen who turn out to be Dubya Spuckler and two of his Massive Numbered Siblings disguised beyond recognition.
  • Continuity Nod: When the family is playing Scrabble, Bart's tiles spell out "kwyjibo".
  • Clue, Evidence, and a Smoking Gun: Kearny reveals that he and the other bullies found clues in the Simpsons' videos that helped them determine the location of their mansion such as regional bird songs and ice cream flavors found only in a certain town, plus the postal worker his mother was dating gave them the address.
  • Friendship Bribe: Bart paid the three co-stars on his prank channel, not only to appear in the videos, but even to hang out with him off-camera as they didn't like him much.
  • Nutritional Nightmare: Marge started her own web talk show featuring hosts who eat her food made of this trope, while interviewing them in a parody of “Hot Ones”. One of these is the Coagulator, a tuna melt dipped in funnel cake batter, then fried in hot mayonnaise. It’s so unhealthy that it nearly choke Krusty to death.
  • Once More, with Clarity: The turning point of the story comes with the video "The Dark Side of the Simpsons Family," in which Milhouse, formerly the family's cameraman, reveals footage which he edited out of many of the clips we saw previously, showing the bad behavior of the Simpsons behind the scenes.
  • The Reveal: The person who's been watching all the videos is George R.R. Martin, procrastinating instead of working on his next book.
  • Riddle for the Ages: While eventually found when Kearny and the other bullies track down their location, we never actually see the family escape the room they were locked in.
  • Shout-Out: The Lenny and Carl Situation is a clear homage to Joe Rogan's podcast, with the characters framed in similar positions and their pushing bizarre, outlandish historical and medical "facts."
  • Take That!: To popular YouTubers and vloggers of all kinds, particularly "family channels" for their tendency toward exploitation and manipulation in the interest of gaining internet fame.
