Recap / The Secret Show S 2 E 2 Zombie Attack

Go To

A zombie outbreak occurs in London, and U.Z.Z is slowly infected after the words "yes" and "no" are weaponized by Doctor Doctor to turn others into zombies.

Changed Daily's Name: Yummy Yummy Says My Tummy.

Secret Tropes uncovered:

  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Just as Anita is reprogramming the cheat code, she’s yanked out of the escape pod by a zombified Victor and Doctor Doctor and turned into a zombie herself. Fortunately, it doesn’t take long for the reprogrammed cheat code to take effect and everyone is restored to normal.
  • Attractive Zombie: Mostly due to the time-slot and art-style, the infected keep their physical features (albeit with green skin and eye-bags) and just start dribbling.
  • Better than a Bare Bulb: Pretty much every zombie-related trope is lampshaded or Played for Laughs here. A good third of the Tropes of the Living Dead index is used in this episode.
  • Cheat Code: Doctor Doctor put a cheat code into the zombifying controller so she won't lose. Essentially, someone has to say the codewords twice: "no no" or "yes yes."
  • The Dead Have Eyes: Any person turned into a zombie can still see perfectly fine.
  • Elite Zombie: YYSMT and Professor Professor are made super durable during their time as zombies. Falling from poles does not kill them, and they can also blast down doors.
  • Episode of the Dead: This episode sees Doctor Doctor unleashing a Zombie Apocalypse upon the world. As a more G-rated version of this trope, the zombies are not the flesh eating variant, instead merely transmitting the infection via touch. In a more unorthodox means of spreading the infection, Doctor Doctor also encodes two words, “yes” and “no”, that when spoken turn a person into a zombie. Eventually, the entire world ends up zombified with only Victor and Anita being the Sole Survivors left to stop Doctor Doctor and save humanity. Anita steals Doctor Doctor's controller after both the Mad Doctor and Victor get zombified, with Anita resetting the key words so that the zombie groan “uhh uhh” restores a zombie back to normal.
  • Once an Episode:
    • Sweet Little Granny is evicted from her time-slot by Ray and U.Z.Z agents using a man-powered trebuchet-see-saw.
    • Victor and Anita land on their skybikes after the title sequence.
    • Changed Daily's name is "Yummy Yummy Says My Tummy" for this episode.
  • Our Zombies Are Different: Zombies in this episode come about when people either touch them or say the words "yes" and "no."
  • Patient Zero: Kowalski's partner is the first U.Z.Z agent to get infected, which spirals out of control when he crashes Victor's skybike into London and then gets various other people infected.
  • Plague Zombie: Via speaking specific words, as well as how it likely started.
  • Pretend We're Dead: Professor Professor, YYSMT, Victor, and Anita all do this to get past various U.Z.Z agents who were turned into zombies.
  • Raising the Steaks: Zombie bunnies appear a few times as a Funny Background Event.
  • Running Gag: YYSMT constantly asking questions, despite repeatedly being told not to.
  • Shock-and-Switch Ending: It seems like the episode is heading for a Sudden Downer Ending when Anita is yanked out of the escape pod by a zombified Victor and Doctor Doctor while reprogramming the cheat code and turned into a zombie, only for the cheat code to take effect seconds later and restore everyone to normal.
  • Shout-Out: To various dance moves, notably the side-to-side dance in Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and YYSMT uses the dance from The Bangles' "Walk like an Egyptian."
  • Touch of Death: If saying "yes" or "no" doesn't turn you into a zombie, then touching one certainly will.
  • Undeath Is Cheap: The zombification is cured by changing the cheat code to "uhh uhh" (the zombie noises).
  • Words Can Break My Bones: Doctor Doctor makes it so that anyone who says "yes" or "no" turns into a zombie. When the world is saved, the trigger word is changed to any doubled word except "uhh uhh" (which restores a zombie back to normal instead).
  • Zombie Apocalypse: We'll let you work this one out. It's started by Doctor Doctor.
  • Zombie Gait: The zombies initially move fairly slowly, but getting them agitated makes them stronger and faster.

Just Do What I Do

Professor Professor, Yummy Yummy Says My Tummy, Victor, and Anita all pretend to be zombies to get past various U.Z.Z. agents who have actually been turned into zombies.
