Recap / The Real Ghostbusters Slimer 15 Dr Strangedog

Go To

Egon and Slimer are eating cereal, when Slimer finds a coupon in the box. He sees an ad for a spy kit if you collect a hundred coupons, but Egon refuses to collect them for him. Slimer flies off and does it himself, stuffing himself with cereal in the process.

He gets his kit, goes out, and spies on a bird bathing. He then hears voices and follows them up a drainpipe to a manor house. When he gets there, he sees Bruiser talking to a mad scientist dog named Dr. Strangedog, who wants to use a "pet-o-matic ray" to turn all the humans into pets so the dogs can take over.

Strangedog starts a three-minute countdown and has Bruiser guard the machine, but Slimer distracts Bruiser with a robot kitten. The robot beats Bruiser up, but Bruiser catches Slimer trying to turn the machine off and literally kicks him out.

Bruiser goes back to guarding the machine, but Slimer distracts him with a bone on a string tied to a truck that pulls him away. The machine activates, but Slimer deflects its beam and blows up the house.

At the firehouse, Slimer is shocked to see Egon and Ray on all fours, but it turns out that they were only looking for Ray's contact lens.

  • Labcoat of Science and Medicine: While Egon and Ray are scientists and they don't wear lab coats, Dr. Strangedog does, and he's a crazy inventor.
  • Losing Your Head: Justified due to being a ghost — when the message that comes with Slimer's spy kit self-destructs, his head gets blown off but he survives.
  • Mad Scientist: Dr. Strangedog wears a lab coat and talks about leading a dog takeover.
  • Meaningful Name: Dr. Strangedog is an unusual dog, who wants to be more like a human and have the humans act more like dogs.
  • Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: The villain is Dr. Strangedog.
  • Non-Fatal Explosions: The dogs survive their house blowing up with them inside.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Slimer is still clearly recognisable in his "disguise", which consists only of a hat, coat, and Groucho glasses.
  • Shock-and-Switch Ending: Slimer diverts the beam from the machine... but Egon and Ray are on all fours... luckily, they're just looking for a contact lens.
  • Shout-Out: The episode puns on Dr Strangelove.

  • Viewers Are Morons: Despite Slimer still being recognisable in his coat, hat, and Groucho glasses, he still tells the audience that it's him.
