Recap / The Nostalgia Critic S 2 E 21

Go To

Release: May 26, 2009

Series: Full House (1987-1995)

This review contains examples of:

  • Alien Among Us: At the end of the review, the Critic "discovers" that the Olsen twin are actually mutant aliens using the show as a brainwashing device for people to submit to their will, which would explain its insane longevity.
  • Brick Joke: Early in the review, a clip of Joey saying "Ah-keh-keh-keh-keh-keh" is shown. Towards the end of the review, Joey runs over to Michelle, who had just fallen off her horse. The Critic imitates Joey, asking: "Should I do my Popeye impression?"
  • Call-Back: The Critic compares Dan Tanner to the actor who played him, Bob Saget. He says, "Dan Tanner, blow me. Bob... (dubbed from Batman) you....... are my number one... GUY!", a line featured in the previous episode, "Old vs. New: Batman vs. The Dark Knight".
    • To the Street Fighter/Mortal Kombat review. Towards the end of the review, after The Critic thinks he killed Mary Kate & Ashley:
Critic: I did it. They're dead. Can you believe them? Trying to take over the world?
    M. Bison: Of COURSE!
    Critic: Of course, yeah.
  • Disguised Horror Story: The episode starts out much the same as any other until The Critic finds out the Olsen Twins are demons.
  • Dream Within a Dream: Done repeatedly at the end of the review; the Critic keeps getting scared by the demonic Olsen Twins popping up, only to wake up and realize it was a dream.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In-Universe example. The Critic admits that Bob Saget's status as a raunchy comedian makes the latter's performance as the "prissy" Danny Tanner really amusing for him to watch.
  • Jump Scare: Every time the Olsen Twins pop up and growl.
  • Period Shaming: Parodied in this review, in which Critic plays the trademark sappy music while acting out a scene where Danny teaches Stephanie about periods and tells her her body is disgusting.
Danny: Stephanie. There's a time in every girl's life when she notices that she's going through some changes. They might seem bizarre or strange to you, but it happens to every young woman. It's called having a period. It's gross, disgusting and unnatural but it's something that all females go through. You may see your body as something possessed, horrifying, or despicable, and that's because it is. Stop it. Right now.
  • Portmanteau:
Critic: I mean, a bad movie is one thing. That's like two hours, but to watch episode upon episode of manufactured pwecious shit, or "pweshit," as I like to call it, quite often, is more than I can bear.
  • Raging Stiffie: Implied by the Critic raising a finger when Becky talks about how she performed in Romeo and Juliet in an all-girls school.
  • Shout-Out: The ending parodies The Shining, specifically the creepy twins.
  • Subverted Catchphrase: After repeated attempts to say his catchphrase (only to be frightened by the demonic Olsen Twins popping up out of nowhere):
"You know what I do and you know why I do it." (runs out)
  • The Talk: The Critic gives a mock talk over sappy Full House-esque musicnote
Critic: Stephanie. There's a time in every girl's life when she notices that she's going through some changes. They might seem bizarre or strange to you, but it happens to every young woman. It's called having a period. It's gross, disgusting and unnatural but its something that all females go through. You may see your body as something possessed, horrifying, or despicable, and that's because it is. Stop it. (smiling) Right now.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: Invoked. When Joey and Jesse get stuck in a wrestling lock, The Critic asks, "Uhhhh... this was a family show, right??"
