Recap / The New Scooby Doo Movies S 2 E 1 The Mystery Of Haunted Island

Go To

Scooby and the gang are en route to Picnic Island, when the former eats all their food. Stopping off at the Harlem Globetrotters to restock causes them to miss the boat and instead climb onto one for Haunted Island, on the night before the Globetrotters are due to face the Ocean City Scorpions. And the island soon lives up to its name…

  • Abandon Ship: When the Haunt Island ferry sets sail on its own, Shaggy and Scooby try to jump overboard and swim to shore. Meadowlark stops Shaggy while saying the waters are filled with all sorts of nasty sea creatures, something Scooby ended up confirming the hard way when he encounters a swordfish.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: The ghosts turn out to be the owner, coach and trainer for the Scorpions, trying to keep the Globetrotters from sleeping so they’ll be too tired to win the game. Having to solve their mystery results in the first part of the plan succeeding.
  • Continuity Nod: Mystery Inc.'s previous team-ups with the Globetrotters are alluded to, with the latter group recognizing "our old pal, Scooby Doo."
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Even though the owner, coach, and trainer of the Scorpions succeeded in keeping the Globetrotters from getting any sleep the night before the ball game, thanks to Shaggy and Scooby, the Globetrotters still manage to win.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Before their Heroic Second Wind, the Globetrotters are losing to the Scorpions 42-0.
  • Eek, a Mouse!!: After Fred tries to assure Shaggy that the noises they were hearing in the shack was probably just a mouse, a creeped out Daphne retorts that she rather it be a ghost
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Fred urging the Globetrotters to “put this game on ice” inspires Shaggy to dump ice down everyone’s shorts to wake them up.
  • Formula-Breaking Episode: The ghosts are unmasked with several minutes left in the episode, with the rest of it focusing on the Globetrotters trying to face the Scorpions in their sleep-deprived state.
  • Got Volunteered: When the Globetrotters are spooked out of bed by something in their bed, Medowlark asks for a volunteer to go see what it is. When nobody does, he tricks Curly into raising his head by telling he thinks he's growing hair, leading Curly to feel his head.
  • Karma Houdini: Since they weren’t doing anything illegal, the bad guys are allowed to go free. That said, the purpose of their scheme, that of sabotaging the Globetrotters to win the ball game, fails.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Much to Meadowlark's dismay, the rest of the Globetrotters trying to act like a crew is just one Epic Fail after another.
Meadowlark: If Columbus had this crew, the world would still be flat.
  • We Are Not Going Through That Again: After the Globetrotters restock the gang’s picnic basket after Scooby ate everything, Shaggy adds one thing they forgot. A padlock.
