Recap / The New Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh S 2 E6a No Rabbits A Fortress

Go To

Rabbit has grown so sick of the others constantly causing chaos in his garden that he has constructed a massive fortress around his property, and demands his friends never trespass again. Unfortunately, it’s only then that Rabbit realizes that he’s trapped himself inside with no way out, forcing him to beg for his friends’ help.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • An Aesop: It goes both ways. You have to respect the boundaries of your friends, their homes, and livelihoods... but Rabbit learns he shouldn't take his friends for granted even though they drive him nuts sometimes, since they ultimately agree to help bust him free even after he rips them a new one
  • Battering Ram: The group uses this as part of their first attempt to bring down the fortress.
  • Break the Haughty: After viciously telling his friends off, Rabbit is forced to recant and beg for their help.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Pooh tells Piglet to cover his ears, he tries to demonstrate by covering his eyes instead.
  • Cutting the Knot: While Gopher's determined to use explosives to get Rabbit out of the tree, Pooh is actually able to figure out a way to get Rabbit down by simply tricking Rabbit into waving back at him, which causes him to let go and fall back to the ground. It only doesn't cross into Dumbass Has a Point since they were trying to get Rabbit down safely, which getting him to fall obviously wouldn't be, even though he turns out fine.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Rabbit forgot to build a door for his fortress in his determination to keep the others away.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: As Rabbit begins to garden in his massive fortress, he comes to the horrified realization that he's trapped himself in.
Rabbit: Now for a little peace and quiet. And gardening. Hmm, where did I leave my shovel? Oh, yes, it's right outside THE DOOR?! [screams and panics] THE DOOR! I FORGOT TO MAKE A DOOR! I can't get out! I'm trapped! DOOMED!
  • Extra-Long Episode: This episode clocks in at about 16 minutes, in contrast to the show usually having 11 minute episodes or the occasional double length 22 minute episode. The commercial break takes place before the last five minutes of the episode, leaving it and the consequently five-minute "The Monster Frankenpooh" for the second half of the episode.
  • Food as Bribe: Rabbit finally starts convincing the group to come rescue him when he offers Pooh honey, which is enough for the bear of a rumbly tumbly to crack.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Rabbit was so focused on making his fortress impenetrable that he forgot that he needed to be able to get in and out.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While the main plot is kicked off by Rabbit being too forceful in trying to isolate himself and his garden, the first few minutes of the episode do show that the others have been being too disrespectful of Rabbit's boundaries, especially Tigger and Gopher. Pooh indulging in Rabbit's honey supply is also a well known recurring issue.
  • No Matter How Much I Beg: Rabbit’s "The Reason You Suck" Speech genuinely gets through to his friends who sadly agree to leave him alone. When Rabbit begs for their help, they initially believe it’s a test to see if they follow his orders to stay away.
  • Nuke 'em: Gopher's solution to everything in this episode is to blow it up with various explosives, up to and including getting Rabbit out of a tree.
  • Squirrels in My Pants: Piglet briefly hides in Pooh's shirt after being spooked by Rabbit's voice when he's stuck in a tree.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: When Gopher prepares to blow Rabbit's garden to kingdom come at the beginning of the episode, Pooh and Piglet recognize this isn't going to be pretty and try to cover their ears.
  • Token Good Teammate: Of all the characters who've been causing Rabbit trouble, Piglet is easily the most innocent one. Tigger and Gopher are destroying Rabbit's crops and disrespecting his boundaries for their own personal fun, and Pooh is constantly borrowing Rabbit out of house and honey. Piglet only inadvertently made a small mess stepping into Rabbit's property even disregarding his "keep out" signs. Tellingly, Piglet spends Rabbit's "The Reason You Suck" Speech mostly clogged into the toilet plunger and spared the worst of the verbal lashing.
  • Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: Even when the group succeeds in bringing down the fortress, the commercial break starts with Rabbit stuck at the top of a tree with no way down.
