Recap / The New Adventures of Invader Zim, S1E14 "Tenn Meets World"

Go To

Tenn struggles to acclimate to living on Earth as Tak's partner.

  • Anti-Advice: While at the diner, Skoodge gives Tenn some friendly advice to deal with being stuck working for Tak. She writes it off as "sad and stupid", but still finds the drive to keep going.
  • Berserk Button: Tak hates being compared to Zim.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Dib's reaction to Tenn joining the skool is to casually mention that a new alien arriving to Take Over the World is just another Tuesday to him by now.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This chapter focuses on Tenn as she adjusts to life on Earth, with Tak alone being the only other main character to show up more than once or twice.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Tenn does this with soda and doughnuts to deal with the stress of being forced to work with Tak.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Being a pragmatist and a professional, Tenn feels that Tak is far too petty in her rivalry with Zim.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • It's revealed that Invader Larb was officially declared the best Invader, something that happened in Issue 18 of the comic series.
    • Zim is briefly shown in his "scheming nook", which featured in Issue 13.
    • Tenn at one point wonders if there's something in the food making humans stupid. In Issue 21, Gaz (who is in Zim's body at the time) takes over the world partially thanks to solving world hunger via food laced with chemicals that make people stupid.
    • The diner that Tenn and Skoodge meet at is called Jhonen's, after Jhonen Vasquez.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Tak ignoring Tenn's advice to carry out her latest plan leads to it backfiring and almost destroying her base and killing them both.
  • Pass the Popcorn: Zim's reaction to Tak accidentally creating and losing control of a storm that threatens her and the city is to sit back and watch it play out, ordering GIR to bring him some popcorn to enjoy it with.
  • Pillar of Light: One bursts out of Tak's base when she supercharges the Meekrob crystal. All this energy has the side effect of creating a massive storm.
  • Seen It All: Norlock's reaction to seeing the massive energy storm over the city? Casually commenting on it and calmly going back inside the base.
  • Shout-Out: The chapter’s title is a reference to Boy Meets World.
