Recap / The Muppets Mayhem S1E7 "Track 7: Eight Days a Week"

Go To

Kevin Smith drops by to help the band film a rockumentary to help promote their album, but the group's long buried past resentments and the ever growing love triangle between Moog, Nora, and JJ threaten the film's completion.

Tropes:

  • Call-Back: When he shortens the band’s name, Dr. Teeth says “We am, is, are and be, they whom are known as just the Electric Mayhem”, word-for-word how Floyd introduced them in The Muppet Movie.
  • Explosive Breeder: JJ attempts to get on Animal's good side with a gift of bunnies. Naturally, they quickly multiply. When Nora kicks out the actors who think they're auditioning to play Zoot she tells them all to take a bunny with them. Despite this, there's still plenty left over.
    Animal: BUNNY MAKE MORE BUNNY!
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Pausing on the full shot of the calander reveals several little Easter eggs, including a doodle of Animal eating the border, a hair appointment for Zoot on a Sunday, and a random Saturday marked as "Tell Lips he's adopted".
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: As the tensions between the band increase they start pointing out each others' flaws to...mixed reactions.
Dr. Teeth: They called Penny intrusive and my hat repulsive. Neither are true!
Floyd: Well, they called me a diva and a cheapskate! Half true!
Janice: They called me capricious and flighty. Both true!
  • Meaningful Rename: After learning of how the rest of the band was resentful over how his name got to be in the group's name (a suggestion from Penny due to their romance) because it made it feel like despite his insistence otherwise, Dr. Teeth was the official leader and face of the band while they were just his backup musicians, Dr. Teeth officially declares at the end that the group will now and forever solely be known as just "The Electric Mayhem".
  • Noodle Incident: It's revealed that The Electric Mayhem are acquainted with Peter Jackson, and they haven't seen each other since they spent a night in Wellington and met the Feebles. Nothing about that night is elaborated upon aside from Jackson mentioning that it was a bad night, with two of the Feebles now in witness protection and the rest being in prison.
  • Rooftop Concert: In yet another nod to The Beatles, the Mayhem perform on the roof of The Shack.
  • Running Gag: Zoot, who thinks they're making a biopic rather than a documentary, keeps suggesting people he wants to play him...only to be told that that person is already dead.
    Zoot: What? When?
  • Self-Deprecation: Susana Hoffs, seeing Lips re-enact "Walk Like an Egyptian," embarrassingly admits "it was fun in the 80s."
  • Shipper on Deck: Hannah has noticed othat Moog has feelings for Nora and offers him advice on how to compete with JJ.
  • Shout-Out: Apparently, Peter Jackson and the band are previously acquainted from a night in Wellington when they met the Feebles. The bandmates mutter with disgust and Sir Peter acknowledges it was a bad night: "Two of the Feebles are in witness protection, and the rest are in prison."
    • The Documentary starts with a shot of an amp being turned up to 11.5, no doubt in reference to the famous "Up To Eleven" bit from This is Spın̈al Tap, which resulted in the manufacturing of amps that go up to 11 in the first place.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: The episode is a parody of The Beatles: Get Back as Nora attempts to have a documentary of the band filmed, complete with a cameo from Peter Jackson.
  • Yoko Oh No: Penny suddenly starts attending recording sessions which annoys of the rest of the band.
