Jenna Darabond returns to Overland Park after a mysterious disappearance.
Tropes:
- Ax-Crazy: Jenna Darabond burned down a fucking mall just to get back at Mackenzie.
- Backstabbing the Alpha Bitch: Jenna Darabond's been doing this to Mackenzie ever since the first episode.
- Call-Back: Numerous ones to the first and second season.
- Deandra has no idea who Ashley Katchadourian is, despite that Mackenzie remembers Deandra explicitly said Ashley let her into the girls room when they first met. As it turns out, that's because Jenna Darabond let Deandra in and said she was Ashley Katchadourian.
- Ashley explained her absence in the first season because she was vacationing at Pearl Harbor and claimed she submitted the proper paperwork ahead of time. During Jenna's flashback we find she did fill out the paperwork. Problem is, she gave the papers to Jenna and asked her to pass them along to Trisha which Jenna deliberately did not do to set Ashley up as a scapegoat.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Mackenzie might've been acting like a dick to Jenna but that in no way justified her burning down an entire mall as part of her evil scheme.
- Even Evil Has Standards:
- Despite everything else she's done to the Cheer Squad, Jenna draws the line at taking credit for Deandra losing her arms and says it was fucked up. Subverted in that she still refers to Deandra as "Stubbs McGee."
- Mackenzie is absolutely horrified when she learns Jenna burned down the Atchinson Mall just to get Tanya Berkowitz to come to Overland Park.
- Hypocrite: Jenna's flashback showed Mackenzie stating that lusting for Justin Michaelson while he was dating Ashley Katchadourian would make Jenna the worst type of whore imaginable. Mackenzie then made out with Justin right in front of Jenna and said it was "their little secret."
- Kick the Dog:
- Jenna callously decided that, if she got Justin, "if someone like Ashley Katchadourian got hurt, so be it." Ashley did nothing to Jenna except date a guy she liked (and it's implied she didn't even know about Jenna's feelings).
- Jenna dismissively calling Deandra "Stubbs McGee."Deandra: I had my arms ripped off, are you really gonna make fun of me too?
- Misplaced Retribution:
- Jenna has good reason to be pissed at Mackenzie, even if she took it way too far, but she also hates Ashley for having dated Justin. From what we see, Ashley's been nothing but nice to Jenna in the past, and it's even implied they were actual friends at one point, as Jenna did seem to genuinely feel guilty over having a crush on Ashley's boyfriend. As such, her callous disregard for Ashley in the present is a massive Kick the Dog moment.
- To a lesser extent, Brittnay also earns Jenna's ire for kissing Justin. It's understandable that she'd be angry, but at the end of the day, Jenna and Justin were not dating yet, and Brittnay isn't the one who said going for another girl's boyfriend makes you a whore—so, unlike Mackenzie, she at least isn't a hypocrite. If anything, it's a little surprising that Ashley, Justin's girlfriend at the time, didn't go after Brittnay for this in Season Two.
- This episode has Trisha finally realizing Ashley was framed and really didn't deserve to be blamed for Deandra's maiming, and that everything she did to her in response was actually this trope.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Trisha has a massively awkward version of this when, after connecting the dots between everything that's occurred since Deandra was let into the girls room, she realizes just how badly Ashley Katchadourian was screwed over because of something she didn't do. As an attempt to make it up to Ashley, she asks that Mackenzie and Brittnay please leave Ashley alone from now on since she's suffered enough.
- Not Me This Time: Jenna denies having orchestrated Deandra's maiming, saying she had nothing to do with it and it was "Super fucked up."
- Only Sane Man: Matthew Derringer is the only one to point out Jenna Darabond is literally confessing to a felony.
- The Reveal: Jenna Darabond's been the cause of every horrible thing from the past two seasons, starting from letting Deandra into the girls room which sparked the war between the Cheer Squad and the Van Burens and cost Deandra her arms, not informing Trisha that Ashley Katchadourian was on vacation, telling Shay Van Buren that Mackenzie cheated on Steven Carmichael, and finally burning down the Atchison mall so Tanya, Taylor, and Trisha 2 would arrive in Overland Park.
- The Scapegoat: Jenna framed Ashley for letting Deandra into the bathroom, which is what led to Trisha unleashing her "The Reason You Suck" Speech on Ashley for Deandra's maiming and then orchestrating Brittnay making out with Justin Michaelson at prom. Trisha feels horribly when she realizes how badly they victimized Ashley over something that wasn't her fault.
- Speak in Unison:Ashley: Wait, Mackenzie, you made out with Justin?Brittnay and Mackenzie: SHUT THE FUCK UP ASHLEY KATCHADOURIAN!!
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Literally every horrible thing that's happened since the first season can be traced back to Mackenzie, since her hypocritically making out with Justin and asking Jenna to keep it a secret is what made Jenna do a Face–Heel Turn.
- Unwitting Pawn: It turns out Tanya Berkowitz and the Atchison cheerleaders were goaded into antagonizing the Cheer Squad by Jenna destroying their mall so they'd have a reason to be in Overland Park.
- Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Jenna Darabond felt extremely guilty that she was in love with Justin Michaelson even though Ashley was dating him, but then seeing Mackenzie make out with him after Mackenzie just told her trying to be with him would make Jenna a gigantic whore caused Jenna to snap.
- Wham Line: Deandra gets confused when the Cheer Squad start ripping into Ashely Katchadourian as if she has no idea who the girl is. After the girls all go into detail about Ashley, and Ashley reminding her that Deandra threw her into the mall fountain several weeks ago, she unexpectedly drops a bombshell:Mackenzie: You told me about her the day we met.Deandra: Yeah. But that's not Ashley Katchadourian.(Cue Jenna Darabond entering the class)Deandra: That's Ashley Katchadourian.
