Jane: '"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have somewhere fabulous to be."

Directed by J Miller Tobin

Written by Jordan Harper

When a heist at an art museum leaves its curator dead, the FBI core team works with the Beareau's Art Theft division to get a local criminal ring. In order to catch its leader and get back the stolen works, Jane comes up with a plan for the team to go undercover as art thieves.

This episode introduces Pedro Pascal as Marcus Pike, an agent with the FBI's Art Theft team and a potential Third-Option Love Interest for Lisbon.

Tropes that apply to this episode:

  • Batman Gambit: One of the more convuluted undercover plans, but it plays out quite nicely in summary:
    • Abbot goes undercover as Jane's bodyguard, striking up a frienship with Mackaye's henchman Pulaski over a televised boxing match at the latter's favorite bar.
    • Cho pretends to be a pool player nearby the above two. Once the banter gets pretty loud, Cho pretends to miss a shot, costing him a game. He confronts the two and brandishes his gun, forcing them to run out of the bar.
    • Not wanting the drinking to end, Abbot takes him to his "employers", Jane and Lisbon, where a party is in full swing.
    • Fischer walks past Pulaski, flirts with him a little and leads him up to the master bedroom, filled with stolen art pieces that would be of interest to Mackaye
    • Pulaski gets into contact with Mackaye, alerting him to the valuable art pieces. Mackaye shows up and demands that Jane and Lisbon have a choice: they can leave Texas, which is his territory, or cut him in on the action
    • Mackaye ends up betraying Jane and Lisbon and steals the art from their house
    • A waste removal truck and a marching band organized by Jane steer Mackaye to take a cab driven by Wylie (posing as a taxi driver) to his stolen art hideout. The FBI then move in for the arrest.
  • Comforting Comforter: Lisbon does this to Jane as he sleeps on the couch instead of with her in the master bedroom.
  • The Dandy: Jane's undercover persona comes off as this
  • Honey Trap: Fischer plays the part of seducing Mackaye's henchman in order to get him to the master bedroom, where he would recognize a stolen painting and call in his boss, thus setting the plan in motion.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Lisbon and Fischer dress up in quite revealing dresses as part of the plan.
  • Meaningful Name: Violetsis the name of the painting that Jane and Lisbon plan to steal along with Edwin Mackaye.
  • Third-Option Love Interest: A slow brewing attraction starts to brew between Lisbon and Pike. They go out for dinner at the end of the episode.
  • Wicked Cultured: Mackaye's background check at the FBI showed that he minored in Arts at college. It's how he's able to identify and appraise valuable pieces for theft.
