"Strife of the Party"

On the twins' seventh birthday, Lana decides to take over the party planning for once, forcing Lola to try to do everything in her power to prevent that from happening.
  • Birthday Episode: The episode takes place on Lola and Lana's seventh birthday.
  • Chest Burster: Lana's pet possum, Duncan, is introduced bursting out of Lola's doll Eunice Xenomorph-style.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Lynn Sr. apparently brought his cowbell along to the twins' birthday party, despite Rita telling him that he wouldn't need it. He ends up using his cowbell to stall for time while Lola tries to set things right.
  • Crying at Your Birthday Party: Lana tearfully chews Lola out for ruining her party planning before cycling away on her bicycle. Lola then starts crying out of guilt until her makeup starts running.
  • Even the Dog Is Ashamed: Lana’s new pet possum Duncan hisses at Lola in response to her scheming, and both Duncan and El Diablo glare at her when they leave the party with Lana.
  • Foreshadowing: On the day of the party, Lola is not wearing her tiara, and Lana is told by Flip that his tires are all flat. That's because Lola used her tiara to sabotage the party by deflating all of Flip's tires, and sure enough, when he finally arrives, he's got the tiara with him.
  • Garbage Hideout: Lana hides in a trashcan after finding out what Lola did.
  • Impact Silhouette: Lola and Lana both create one in Flip’s food and fuel after a bull Lana hired for their party kicks them through the wall.
  • Jumping Out of a Cake: Lana jumps out of the cake she made at the bakery.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After Lana leaves the party upon finding out that Lola had ruined her party planning Lola becomes devastated and realizes that she had been acting selfish and unfair to her twin sister.
  • My God, You Are Serious!: Lola first thinks Lana is joking when she reveals her intention to plan their birthday party, before realizing Lana is serious.
  • Prenatal Possessions: This episode reveals that Lola has planned birthday parties for her and Lana since before they were born. A flashback sequence shows an ultrasound of the twins, with Lola wearing a party hat and blowing into a noisemaker.
  • Running Gag: Lynn Sr. whips out his cowbell once again when Lola leaves the party to restore it to Lana's liking. Rita is understandably annoyed.
  • String Theory: Lola uses one to plan the birthday party.
  • Toilet Humour: Lola mentions that at one point, Lana took a dump on one pile of leaves and used another to clean herself up.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Lana is outraged at Lola when she finds out the latter sabotaged her party planning.
  • Your Makeup Is Running: Happens to Lola when she confesses to have sabotaged Lana's party planning.


"Kernel of Truth"

Lincoln and friends decide to reignite their middle school's old news program. When they find themselves lacking in an interesting subject to cover, they are swept up in investigating the disappearance of popcorn.
  • Admiring the Poster: Rusty Spokes looks at a poster he found at his school's recording studio of a woman who he thinks is cute. Zach is disgusted because the woman is Zach's mother.
  • And the Adventure Continues: The episode ends with the Action News Team going for their next story, about a supposed hot tub in the teachers lounge.
  • Brick Joke: At the start of the episode, Lincoln and friends are looking for the school’s secret game room. Near the end of the episode, Meryl tells them where it is in exchange for them not revealing she was the one stealing the popcorn.
  • Call-Back: When Clyde says he has news experience he's holding up a photo of him and Ricky the Rooster.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Mr. Bolhofner sued the middle school because Stella guessed his age wrong.
  • Film the Hand: Chef Pat does this when Stella finds a shoe in the chili she was making.
  • Foreshadowing: At the beginning of the episode, Meryl is annoyed while dealing with the kids as she was trying to watch a soap opera on her laptop. In the end, it turns out that's the reason she stole the popcorn: to soundproof a room in order to watch the show uninterrupted.
  • Given Name Reveal: Stella's last name is revealed to be "Zhau".
  • Hairpin Lockpick: How Stella opens the door behind which the popcorn culprit is hiding.
  • Just Eat Gilligan: Meryl would have an easier time if she had used headphones.
  • Leeroy Jenkins
    • When Lincoln and friends are on their stakeout and see somebody pay the delivery truck driver to hand over the popcorn, Rusty immediately attacks without a plan, or even looking where he is going. He ends up attacking some trash cans.
    • Later, when the Popcorn Culprit appears to be on the boat to Canada, Rusty tries to jump his bike onto the boat, that is already sailing away. He ends up falling into the river.
    • It happens again when he tries to break through a door behind which the Popcorn Culprit appears to be hiding, and ends up slamming into the door instead.
  • Lethal Chef: Chef Pat is caught preparing chili with a shoe in it.
  • Mobile Shrubbery: Zach disguises himself as a bush on the second stakeout. The only thing he accomplishes is that he scares off the delivery truck driver when the Action News Team wants to question him.
  • Never Recycle a Building: The news show room has never been repurposed for anything else, even though the show has been cancelled years ago.
  • The Reveal: Meryl is the popcorn culprit. Though she didn’t take the popcorn to eat it, but to soundproof a room so she could watch her shows in peace.
  • Running Gag:
    • Zach and Rusty knocking down something (twice a bust of the principal, once a gumball machine) anytime the Action News Team does their team pose.
    • Rusty getting in trouble due to his Leeroy Jenkins actions.
  • Secret Room: Royal Woods Middle School has a secret game room, the entrance of which is hidden in an out of use locker. Even principal Ramirez didn’t know about it and claims she’s been looking for the room for years.
  • "Super Sentai" Stance: The action news team pose Lincoln and his friends come up with.
  • Tracking Device: The Action News Team uses a bag of popcorn with a tracking device to try and catch the popcorn culprit
  • Younger Than They Look: When Stella interviews Mr. Bolhofner about his birthday, she suspects him to be in his 60s, prompting the latter to angrily state that he's 34.
