Recap / The Lion Guard S 2 E 8 Rafikis New Neighbors

Go To

Summary: When a noisy bachelor herd moves in next door to Rafiki's tree, the Lion Guard try to help the animals find new homes.

This episode contains examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: For Rafiki and Makini.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: Chama, Furaha and Mzaha are this among their respective groups, where their playful antics aren't appreciated.
  • Breather Episode: Though there is the threat of dry lightning throughout the episode as well as the fire in the third act, it's still much Lighter and Softer than the one before and the one after it, especially since the plots of those two revolved around Scar, Ushari and the hyenas conspiring to kill a major character.
  • Continuity Nod: Bupu still only agrees to Fuli if she asks politely.
  • Cool Old Guy: Chama and co. think Rafiki is this, hence why they want to live near his tree at first.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Chama, Furaha and Mzaha put out the fire near Rafiki's tree by dousing it with dirt.
  • Eating Contest: Furaha apparently breaks his own bug eating record, though this is somewhat justified as he's the only one of his friends who eats insects.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Despite the possibility of living through several dry seasons at this point, none of the Pridelanders save for Ono are aware that there's such thing as dry lightning, nor that stray lightning bolts can cause brush fires.
  • Fratbro: Chama, Furaha and Mzaha are as close to this as animals can get.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Chama the elephant is the leader of his group of friends. Chama in Swahili means "club" or "group," which both describe his "fraternity" with Furaha and Mzaha.
    • Furaha means "Happiness" in Swahili, reflecting his fun-loving nature.
    • Mzaha likes fooling around with his pals, and he headbutted his fellow herd members for the fun of it. Mzaha means "Joke" in Swahili.
  • Mischief-Making Monkey: While Furaha plays this straight, the other monkeys of his troop are aversions. Thus, this is deconstructed as Furaha's antics caused him to become an outcast from his troop.
