Recap / The Interns S 2 E 1

Go To

Lyuba is tired of Lobanov abusing Levin, and confronts him about it. Lobanov explains his abuse as "attempt to create a 'true man' out of Levin". At first, Lyuba doesn't believe him, but, after witnessing Levin being mistreated even by the orderlies, she asks Semyon to do exactly that. After several failures (Levin is just too cowardly), Lyuba suggest Semyon to just insult her in front of Levin: hopefully, this would provoke Levin to retaliate. This seemingly fails... only for Levin to attack Lobanov later, when he didn't expect an attack. Levin screams so loudly that anyone can hear him, confirming to everyone that yes, he is a "true man". He also scares Lobanov enough that he apologises.

Varya and Gleb finally had sex the last night... but it turns out to be not as good as they expected, and Varya was disappointed, but to not harm Gleb's feelings, she simulated orgasm (with which she went a bit... overzealous). Unfortunately, Gleb already told Lobanov that, judging from screams, it was the "greatest night of [her] life". Lyuba suggests Vary to continue her deception, but Varya decides to instead ask Kupitman how to deal with inability to have orgasm. Kupitman provides her with some... interesting literature. To not cause any suspicions, she hides it inside a medical book.

Gleb is tasked with new patient with a jaw dislocation. With his uncle Misha's help he manages to heal it, but then Bykov finds out that he cheated, and provokes the patient into another dislocation. Gleb fails to repeat the process by himself and gets punished. Then Bykov decides to teach him how to treat such injuries... and Gleb finds out about Varya's lie, when he takes the book away from her. He is offended by her lie, but decides to give her another chance.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: When Lobanov provokes Levin hard enough, Levin retaliates hard enough to scare Semyon.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Gleb deals with his patient with uncle Misha's help (while he was supposed to to it by himself, to prove that he actually knows how). But when Bykov provokes the patient into another jaw dislocation, Bykov forces Gleb to admit the truth.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When all Lobanov's attempts to provoke Levin into retaliation fails, Lyuba suggests him to just insult her in front of Levin. Semyon feels uncomfortable with this, as he considers insulting a girl to be disgusting.
  • Extreme Doormat: Levin is completely spineless; even if he tries to argue, he quickly gets overwhelmed and gives up. Lyuba tries (with Lobanov's help) to snap him out of it.
  • Fake Orgasm: The first time Varya had sex with Gleb wasn't that good, as she had to fake her orgasm; believing that the problem is with herself, Varya asks Kupitman for help, which kickstarts her plot.
  • Their First Time: Gleb and Varya finally had sex between this and previous episode... but, as it turns out, Varya was not satisfied by this. She faked her orgasm to not hurt Gleb's feelings, but now she tries to find a way to find out what she can do to avoid the situation being repeated.
  • I Have This Friend: Varya asks Kupitman for help by saying that "her friend" needs his consultation, being too shy to discuss intimate topics. He plays along to not embarrass Varya further.
  • The Immodest Orgasm: Varya went a bit overzealous when trying to fake her orgasm during her night with Gleb, and now Gleb thinks that it was the "best night of [her] life".
  • Kick the Dog: Gleb's patient with dislocated jaw is on receiving end, twice:
    • There's no reason for Gleb to eat that pizza in front of his patient, knowing that this patient can't eat it because of his jaw dislocation, besides just not caring about him.
    • Bykov provokes the patient into another jaw dislocation, just to teach Romanenko a lesson. Gleb deserves it, but the patient doesn't.
  • No-Respect Guy: Levin is so pathetic that he is mistreated by everyone, from other interns to even the orderlies.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Had Varya just told the truth to Gleb right away, it would've been much less painful to him, and would've avoided her entire plot.
  • Teach Him Anger: Lyuba finally gets tired of Lobanov abusing Levin, and tells Semyon to leave her Boris alone. In no uncertain terms. But Lobanov explains that he mistreats Levin no out of evil intentions, but to train him to be a "true man". Lyuba doesn't believe him at first, but when she sees Levin being mistreated even by the orderlies, she asks Lobanov to do exactly that, in hope that Levin would eventually fight him back. The plan seemingly fails at first, but then turns out that Levin just waited for the best moment to strike.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Gleb and Varya refers to sex as "fitness" when near other people. It fools no one.
