Recap / The Interns S 13 E 4

Go To

Bykov gets asked by Kisegach to go buy some food... but he sends Alexei instead, who does everything wrong, and now Kisegach is angry. When Kisegach busts Alexei with food in the corridor, Lyosha reveals that he makes errands for Bykov on regula basis. Those same errands which Bykov was supposed to do for Kisegach. She invites Alexei to her office, for a little talk. While Kisegach sees nothing wrong with occasionally asking Lyosha for help, systematically dropping all the work on him (up to and including babysitting Bykov's son) is another matter. Why make Alexei do everything if they have Bykov, allegedly, a husband and father? If it would continue like this, soon Ilya would start thinking that it's Lyosha who's his father, as he spends more time with him than Bykov! Bykov agrees, on condition that Kisegach wouldn't use a babysitter. Kisegach agrees, but Bykov immediately breaks their agreement, by calling Alexei and ordering him to wear a hood to avoid being recognised.

Sophia suddenly visits Kupitman, nearly busting Lyuba on the kitchen. Kupitman tries to hide her — only for Sophia to reveal that she knows everything already... and that she would keep their secret if they wish so, despite not seeing anything shame-worthy here. And then Gleb walks on them — but Kupitman invents the lie about Lyuba working as his "personal maid". Gleb suddenly tries to hire Lyuba as a maid for himself. When she refuses, he asks Kupitman how much he pays her. When Kupitman refuses to answer, Gleb starts asking how he even came up with idea to hire Lyuba, but Kupitman refuses to answer to that, either. Knowing that Gleb wouldn't leave him alone otherwise, Kupitman asks Lyuba to play along and work as Gleb's maid just that one time, to reinforce their cover story. Lyuba was offended by this cover right from the start, but reluctantly agrees... only to then force Kupitman to do it: if there's "nothing wrong with it", why he can't do it himself? But Kupitman, instead of doing manual work, hires a real maid. She insists on being given three hours to do the work, but he gives her only two, and leave alone. The rest of the plan involves Lyuba complaining that Gleb's apartment is a mess, and she would never work for him again, but when the two arrives, they sees that the "maid" has robbed Gleb, while also making a real mess in process. They have no other option than to tell the truth... and it turns out that Gleb thinks nothing about their relationship; right now, he's much more concerned with, you know, being robbed!

Timur is aware that Polina now lives with Phil, and worries that Phil may "steal" her from him — only for Phil to inform him that he feels nothing for her; it's her who tries to seduce him! Unfortunately, Phil has no sex life to speak of, so unless he finds someone, quickly, he may fall to Polina's advances eventually. Timur agrees to "help" him with it, by talking with Polina himself. Timur asks Polina to stop blatantly seducing Phil just to make him envy, only to learn that Phil's subconsciousness makes everything up by itself, due to total lack of sex life, and her behaviour is anything but sexy. Timur immediately comes up with a plan how to help Phil. That plan involves hiring a prostitute (Timur already found someone, her name is Katia), pass her as Polina's friend, introduce her to Phil and leave them alone under any excuse; Katia would do the rest. Polina doesn't feel impressed by this plan at all, but it actually works out well; Phil is now drunk and happy. But then Phil tells them that he already invited Katia on another date, and she agreed...

This episode provides examples of:

  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: Gleb thinks that there's nothing wrong with Kupitman's relationship with Lyuba — unlike their stupid plan which they employed to cover for it, which resulted in Gleb being robbed by "a maid" whom Kupitman hired. He's also angry at Sophia, because she could have stopped all this by sharing this secret at the first signs of everything going wrong.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Gleb almost learns about Kupitman's relationship with Lyuba, so Kupitman lies that Lyuba works as his maid. Gleb insists on hiring her for one time, either to verify this or because he genuinely needs one. Lyuba refuses, asking Kupitman to do everything by himself. Kupitman instead hires someone else to do the work — and "the maid" whom he hired turns out to be a thief, who steals everything she could take, leaving Kupitman no choice but admit the truth. Now, Gleb knows the truth anyway... and is extremely angry at Kupitman. To add insult into injury, Gleb thinks nothing wrong about their relationship, so they had no reason to hide it from him to begin with.
  • Hypocrite: Invoked by Bykov; as Kisegach's main argument in favour of stopping dropping tasks on Alexei is Bykov also making him babysit Ilya (which results in Ilya spending more time with Lyosha than his father), Bykov points that Kisegach is using a babysitter instead of staying with Ilya herself. He ignores the fact that Kisegach needs babysitter to free time for her job, while Bykov merely wants to have more time for playing games. And then, when Kisegach gives in to his demands and agrees to cut on using babysitter... Bykov does not fulfil his end of agreement, again dropping all tasks on Lyosha, clearly showing that the only hypocrite here is Bykov himself.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Hiring a babysitter (so you may work) and dumping any and all errands on someone else (so you may play games) are totally equal in Bykov's eyes.
  • Internal Reveal: Add Gleb to the list of people aware of Kupitman's relationship with Lyuba.
  • "Rashomon"-Style: Phil's version of events: Polina blatantly tries to seduce him with almost erotic underwear and coats, seductive talking, massage, etc. Polina's version of events: she dresses and talks completely mundane, and instead of massaging him on the morning she just kicks him to awake him. This difference of perspective is caused by Phil not having any sex for several months and being overly sensitive, so his mind just starts deceiving him.
  • Seamless Spontaneous Lie: What Lyuba does in Kupitman's house? She is his personal maid! This so un-romantic version works with Kupitman's character so well, Gleb doesn't question it.
  • Secret-Keeper:
    • Sophia was aware about Kupitman's relationship with Lyuba since the day she accidentally overheard them, but realised by herself that they're trying to keep it secret, so she played along, despite not seeing anything wrong with it. She continues keeping it secret after Kupitman realises that she already knows, though it later backfires.
    • Gleb (who learns about Kupitman's relationship with Lyuba after Kupitman's ridiculous plan imploded) agrees to keep the secret on condition that Kupitman would compensate for everything stolen by the "maid" whom Kupitman has hired. Which is a lot.
  • That Came Out Wrong: Invoked by Polina at several points to mock Timur:
    • Phil is in desperate need for sex which causes him to act weirdly, but Timur would solve this problem by himself... Why are you laughing?..
    • Yes, Timur has hired a prostitute, but this isn't the usual way he solves his problems — in fact, he needs no one for it! Why are you laughing?..
  • Wham Line: When Kupitman tries to fool Sophia that he is sick (so she wouldn't ask weird questions and would leave early), and pretends to sneeze, she tells him to "be healthy"... and then repeats the same for Lyuba (who isn't even in the same room), showing to Kupitman (and confirming to audience) that yes, she's aware of their relationship.
