Recap / The Interns S 12 E 6

Go To

Kisegach hires a new doctor — Timur. He used to work in elite private clinic, but, for whatever reason, moved to this small municipal hospital (which Bykov finds suspicious); Timur states that it was caused by conflict with his old boss. His first working day starts... now. But when Bykov introduces Timur to the team, Polina shows up — and recognises Timur as her hated ex-husband. Polina thinks that Timur is here just to make her life a living hell, and asks Bykov to fire him — only for him to refuse, as he has no issues with Timur yet, while Polina's arguments are questionable at best. Despite what was said before, Bykov still announces that Timur would be fired, presses him into signing up the documents for "voluntary" resignation — because "Polina's ordered him to". Timur complains to Kisegach about this, which leads to Kisegach confronting Bykov about letting Polina firing people — and Bykov revealing that he doesn't plan to do as she demands; actually he wants to teach her a lesson. After that, Bykov goes to on-call room and announces that Timur would stay no matter what. When Polina tries to complain, saying that they had "an agreement", Bykov asks her who she is. When she, in much lower voice, answers that she's an intern, Bykov states that it's him who makes such decisions, not the interns. When Bykov leaves, Polina asks Timur whether he'd moved there just for her; he denies it, but immediately starts "stealthy" trying to establish contact.

When Gleb asks Rita to gather info about Timur, so he may use it later, Lyuba takes offence at that: she's the main gossiper here! But Gleb explains to her that Rita is just quicker than her, so if she wants to restore her reputation, she must become more efficient and operative. The first chance comes up when Polina insists on Bykov firing Timur, thinking that he's here just to make her suffer, which Bykov refuses; Lyuba rushes to tell the story, but Rita was faster, as she'd learned this story from Polina directly. Then Bykov seemingly complies and forces Timur to sign up a resignation document, but Rita again tells about it faster, due to being actually presented during the act. Ultimately, Lyuba fails to find anything which would make her triumph over Rita... but Kupitman reminds her that the main "exclusive" — her affair with him — would forever remain hers. This makes her calmly accept defeat, no longer worrying about being the "number one" gossiper.

Gleb can tolerate Phil's habit of walking around house naked... but not when he does it in Sophia's presence. He tells Phil that this morning incident when he accidentally scared her should be the last one. Phil, in turn, reminds Gleb that they both are living here, and Gleb brings Sophia here all the time. He's tired, and wants them both out for these weekends! Unfortunately, Kupitman is just as unhappy with Gleb and Sophia's presence, for exactly the same reason — total disrespect to the fact that it's his house. He forbids them from moving to him together, and doesn't care how they would deal with it. Having no other options, Gleb forces Phil and Kupitman to go on negotiations and decide a schedule, which would dictate when and where Gleb and Sophia can stay to not offend anyone. But Phil and Kupitman can't agree on the graphic they've prepared, as Kupitman tries to take all the best days for himself. Ultimately, Kupitman suggests to not even bother, and just kick Gleb and Sophia out, forcing them to look for a new place to live if they're so insistent on staying together. Gleb takes offence to that attitude, and states that they would... only to instead try to press them again: Sophia points that they can kick out Phil instead, while Gleb reminds Kupitman about his cousin, who wouldn't react well to Sophia moving out. Ultimately, Kupitman and Phil finally agrees on the schedule.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Dark and Troubled Past: It's implied that there's a good reason why Timur quit working at elite private clinic and moved to this hospital. And it's not just his ex-wife, Polina. It may be somehow related to him having a "conflict" with his boss, since he refuses to go into details.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Lampshaded by Kupitman, who notices that his and Phil's argument over schedule of Gleb and Sophia's visits resembles an argument divorced parents would have over their children: "you take that Sunday, I would take that one..."
  • Home Nudist: It seems that Phil still didn't abandon his habit of walking around house naked; this time, he shocked Sophia, who accidentally run into him during visiting kitchen at morning. He barely managed to cover his manhood with the frying pan.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Even if Gleb has entirely selfish motives when he warns Kupitman that Sophia's parents may take her away if she stops living with him, this is a real possibility, since they regularly checks her up via Skype.
  • Knowledge Broker: It was already established that Lyuba gathers all the local rumours, and that if you want to find out something, you must ask her. But it seems that Rita starts surpassing her, obtaining new info much faster, and in more details.
  • Pet the Dog: Kupitman usually acts like a resident jerk, but near Lyuba, he becomes much more gentle and romantic. When Lyuba states that she became "number two" to Rita, he comforts her, stating that she has much, much greater "exclusive" — their affair, which would forever remain their and only their secret. This works to raise her mood.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Polina suspects that Timur's main reason to move here is to continue pursuing her.
  • Take a Third Option: After Kupitman and Phil fails to agree on a schedule, they decides to just kick Gleb and Sophia out completely, from both apartments. They still returns to original plan later, when Gleb points out a weak point in Kupitman's plan, while Sophia flat out tells Phil that they can kick out him instead.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Gleb keeps inviting Sophia to his and Phil's apartment, which causes Phil no small amount of discomfort, as Sophia just can't learn to respect the fact that he's living there, too — like cancelling his download so she can load her series, or putting around underwear for drying, which prevents Phil from using shower, or calling Phil a "creep" for walking around naked, despite him doing so (with Gleb's permission) long before Sophia started internship, and it's Sophia who caught him off guard, not the other way around. Phil is fed up, and wants to spend at least these weekends alone. Unfortunately, Kupitman isn't ready to let them in together, too — but he has issues with Gleb, for exactly same reasons as Phil is tired of Sophia: because Gleb disrespects the fact that he's a gust here, and guest uninvited.
  • Unseen No More: After being mentioned several times, Polina's ex-husband shows up in person and gets properly introduced.
  • Working with the Ex: Polina's ex-husband Timur gets hired as a new doctor in Therapy. Polina is already very displeased by this, to say the least, and tries to force Bykov into firing him. She fails.
