A Plot: Lainey, Erica, and Barry plan a big party when Lainey's father is out of town.
B Plot: Murray is annoyed by the amount of time Adam spends on the phone talking to Dana in Seattle, mainly due to long-distance charges.
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Beverly weaponizes this when breaking up the Wild Teen Party, purposely becoming the center of attention to end it as soon as possible.
- Implausible Deniability: Mr. Glascott's convinced himself that the often-shirtless lifeguard his long-distance girlfriend lives with, went to Paris with, and took the last name of, is just her roommate. He finally figures it out in The Tag.
- Line-of-Sight Name: After Bev and Lainey start to connect, Erica tries to split them up by saying she has boyfriend troubles and needs her mom...but when asked for his name, she blanks, and calls him "Shrimpson" after seeing a bowl of shrimp on the kitchen counter.
- Long-Distance Relationship: Adam and Dana try to maintain one. Mr. Glascott the guidance counselor claims he has one too, but is clearly in denial. Pops later points out that Murray and Bev themselves were apart for half a year during their relationship, which helps convince Murray to change his mind.
- Manipulative Bastard: After her dad's car is recovered and Bev finds out about the Kick-Ass Risky Business Party, Lainey plays to Beverly's emotions to try and throw the party behind her back...only for Bev to start treating her like one of her own kids, and Lainey actually appreciating the treatment enough to renege on the party. And then she snaps back after Bev gives her college plans and tries to arrange a marriage.
- Person as Verb: Bev warns Barry to stop "Tom Cruiseing" all over the house.
- Shout-Out: Plenty to Risky Business in the A Plot, starting with Barry trying to copy the famous "Risky Business" Dance but messing up the Sock Slide Rink after Bev waxes the floor.
- Title Drop: Barry repeatedly states that he wants to specifically throw A Kick-Ass Risky Business Party.
- Trapped in a Sinking Car: The episode opens with Lainey borrowing her father's Porsche while he's out of town, only for Barry to accidentally hit the gearshift and cause it to end up in a lake.
- Wild Teen Party: Barry spends the whole episode wanting to throw one at Lainey's. Eventually he does, but it ends up with a TV stolen and a trophy almost shattered before Bev shows up and saves the day.
