Recap / The Ghost And Molly Mc Gee S 2 E 37 Jinx Vs The Human World

Go To

Jinx has successfully usurped Scratch from his position as the Chairman and is plunging the entire Ghost World back into misery. Molly and her Ghostfriends dive into Scratch's world to stop her, but when she and her team of Sobgoblins capture their leader, can they still persevere and foil Jinx's plans before her evilness extends to the human world?

Tropes:

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: During her invasion of Brighton, Jinx transforms various fixtures into frightening monuments to herself, as well turning one citizen's bag of flavored chips into unflavored ones.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Just when things seem hopeless, Darryl, who earlier seemed to have bailed, appears in a helicopter to deliver the material June needed for the Phantom Canister. He Lampshades this by saying that he never misses an opportunity to swoop in at the last minute to save the day.
  • Brutal Honesty: Jeff bluntly lets Scratch know that he's a terrible Chairman for allowing Jinx to usurp him and take over the Ghost World.
  • Cool Car: Jinx and the Sobgoblins briefly drive one during the "Back to Misery" sequence.
  • Defiant to the End: Despite losing her Sobgoblin army and being stripped of the Chairman's cloak, Jinx refuses to accept defeat and decides to attack Ruben. It isn't until June manages to trap Jinx in the Phantom Canister that she's defeated for good.
  • Funny Background Event: Crossing over with Dark Humor, but when Molly returns to the Human World, she brings a whole army of ghosts, mainly consisting of those she's befriended over the series, with her as backup. Among them is the ghost of Julius Caesar, who is shown pulling a knife out of his back and brandishing it as a weapon.
  • Going to Give It More Energy: The Sobgoblins get more powerful from sucking the joy out of people. However, Scratch notices that they are overstuffing themselves — something he's very familiar with — and instructs everyone to give them all the joy they can, until the Sobgoblins explode.
Scratch: I recognize that look; I've seen it in the mirror a thousand times. They're overeating! Get ready, your favorite Chairman's got one heck of an idea! (to the Sobgoblins) You want joy? You got it!
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • Scratch negligently leaving the Chairman's robes unattended in the Ghost World leads to Jinx stealing them and almost taking over both worlds.
    • Likewise, it is also revealed that Geoff accidentally gave Ruben his fear of ghosts by sneezing on him as a child, leading to Ruben becoming a ghost hunter and passing down his fear of ghosts to his children.
  • Poke the Poodle: During the "Back to Misery" sequence, Jinx torments a ghost by shaking pepper on her nose, only to stop her from sneezing with a single finger.
  • The Reveal: It turns out that Ruben's prejudice towards ghosts can be traced back to Geoff, of all people, sneezing on him, as Ruben has a fear of sneezing.
  • Save Both Worlds: The plot essentially boils down to Molly and her friends trying to save both the Human World and Ghost World from Jinx, who has stolen the Chairman's robes and is now invading with an army of Sobgoblins.
  • Screw the Rules, I Make Them!: When Molly says Scratch's way to skip Chairman work is against the rules, he says that, as Chairman, he makes the rules. When reminded that he's rule-bound to be Chairman, he repeats the line and decrees the cloak should look for a worthy ruler.
  • Sequel Hook: Although Jinx is defeated once and for all, she declares We Will Meet Again. In addition, Scratch abdicates as the Chairman and allows his cloak to find someone worthy to take his place.
  • Series Fauxnale: Despite having the makings of a Grand Finale, there's still one more episode after this.
  • Sleeping Dummy: To get out of his Chairman duties, Scratch rigged a fake Chairman out of a melon and a metronome under the robe, which operated a fake arm that alternates between thumbs up and thumbs down. This is how Jinx got hold of the robe and made herself the new Chairman.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: When the wraiths (minus Molly) return to the human realm, Geoff says he and Jeff didn't lock their bodies inside a trunk because they creeped them off.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Geoff is revealed to have given Ruben his fear of ghosts by sneezing on him as a child, leading to Ruben becoming a ghost hunter in the present and tormenting innocent ghosts.
  • Villain Song: Back to Misery.
  • We Will Meet Again: Jinx vows her revenge as she's sucked into the Chens' Phantom Canister.
