"You are just trying to stall me"

Claudia tracks Callum and Ezran to the secret tunnels where she stumbles upon Rayla, the princes, and the egg of the Dragon Prince. Rayla argues with Claudia that the egg must be returned to its mother, but Claudia believes Viren took it to protect humans. Callum and Ezran side with Rayla. Callum steals Claudia's primal stone and chains her. Claudia quickly uses a blood candle to summon smoke wolves to chase down the egg. Rayla's blades can not stop the pursuing wolves, but Callum manages to stop them using Sky magic from the primal stone. King Harrow sees an arrogance in Viren. The moonrise gives the attacking Moonshadow elves the power of invisibility. Runaan will not stop the assassination despite recovering the dragon egg, so Rayla fights him. Runaan is the only elf to survive the assassination attempt, but King Harrow was lost. Callum, Ezran, and Rayla decide to return the dragon egg to Xadia.

Tropes:

  • Adults Are Useless: Or rather, adults are too caught up in the past to make things better. By the end, Callum realizes that the old generation (Runaan and Viren) are too focused on vengeance against each other to make peace, and that if they want to change things, they'll have to do it themselves.
  • Annoying Arrows: Justified. Soren is hit with a Moonshadow assassin's arrow, but as he is wearing his full plate armor, the arrow fails to fully penetrate and doesn't do him serious damage.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Rayla tried to use the egg of the Dragon Prince to dissuade Runaan from pressing his attack, forgetting that while the Dragon Prince was alive and therefore Ezran's death was unnecessary, the Dragon King had still been killed, the Moonshadow elves have already placed their binds, and vengeance still called for Harrow's death.
  • Disappointed in You: Runaan doesn't hide his disappointment in Rayla.
  • Die or Fly: Callum does magic for the first time to dispel the smoke wolves.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Viren orders the Royal Guard to grab Callum when he's not telling him where the egg is. Even Soren is hesitant to do it because Callum is still a Prince, but they comply once Viren demands it of them.
  • Fantastic Light Source: Claudia knows a spell that turns her hand into a flashlight.
  • First-Name Basis: Viren used to have this type of relationship with King Harrow. But after Viren promotes the use of dark magic one too many times, Harrow snaps and revokes Viren's Friendly Address Privileges. Viren does not take kindly to losing them.
  • Get It Over With: Runaan tries to evoke this at the end of the episode, and Soren is happy to comply but he is held off by Claudia who thinks that Runaan may be more useful alive.
  • Gigantic Moon: The full moon appearing in the backdrop is huge.
  • Heel Realization: Subtle, but when Rayla mentions the egg's mother, the princes immediately side with her, having lost their own.
  • Hope Spot:
    • Runaan is shocked when he sees the egg and does not try to kill Prince Ezran, but ultimately decides to go through with the assassination of King Harrow anyway.
    • Viren takes away Callum's voice before Callum can warn the King. By the time he gets it back, the battle is already underway.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Lord Viren approaches the fully-manned door to the throne room with, he explains:
Lord Viren: It's something that will protect the king when all your swords have failed.
Soren: Uh, you-you know they can hear you, right?
    [pause]
    Guard: He knows, sir.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: Claudia and Ezran refer to the egg as it, something Rayla takes offense to.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: We only see the aftermath of the battle between King Harrow and the assassins, but only Runaan survived, and he was barely strong enough to shoot the arrow to inform the Dragon Queen of the success of his mission, showing that Harrow had put up one heck of a fight.
  • Oh, Crap!: Rayla, when she saw that the red bind on her wrist fell off, realizing that the other Moonshine elves have completed their mission in assassinating King Harrow.
  • The Only One: Callum decided that he, Ezran, Rayla, and even Bait, must return the egg to Xadia on their own.
  • Percussive Maintenance: When Claudia uses a spell that emits light from her hand like a flashlight, she has to tap her arm a couple of times to get it to stop flickering.
  • Throwing the Distraction: Rayla distracts a guard with a simple rock throw.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Pressures of the impending conflict notwithstanding, Harrow is fed up with Viren's suggestion of using the Soulfang, thinking his friend is acting Holier Than Thou. The king forces Viren to kneel and calls him a servant to make him "know his place".
Harrow: You are a servant of the kingdom of Katolis. You are a servant.
  • Visible Invisibility: Moonshadow elves are almost invisible during full moon nights but we can still see them via their glowing outlines.
  • You Called Me "X"; It Must Be Serious: Callum finally calls King Harrow "Dad" when he's yelling for him, but the battle is too intense for him to hear. And Viren may have already done something to him.
  • You Shall Not Pass!: When the three heroes are pursued by magic hellhounds, Rayla tells the princes to keep running while she prepares to take on the creatures. It is then subverted when Callum turns around to save her with a magical spell, and thus he is the one who prevents them from passing.
