Recap / The Casagrandes S 2 E 9 Home Improvement Undivided Attention

Go To

Home Improvement: Laird is nervous to host movie night at his house, so Ronnie Anne helps him pretend Arturo's pad is his own.

Undivided Attention: Carlota can't seem to pay attention to anything but her phone, so Carlos sets her up with a math tutor.

"Home Improvement" provides examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: For Laird.
  • Exploding Closet: During the "Lairdified" segment, Ronnie Anne and Laird shove all of Arturo's stuff into a closet. Sure enough, when Laird opens the closet, all the stuff comes out right in front of him and his friend.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: Happens to Casey when he eats Arturo's fuego-flavored snacks. He accidentally singes Nikki's hair.
  • Friendly, Playful Dolphin: At the beginning of the episode, Arturo is swimming with dolphins. But one of them proves to be a Devious Dolphin when it steals Arturo's phone and wrecks it by dunking it underwater.
  • Inelegant Blubbering: After Laird crashes into Bruno's hot-dog cart, Bruno is the one who bawls like a baby.
  • In My Language, That Sounds Like...: Arturo had to cut his dolphin swim short because he used the wrong phrase with the dolphins. Apparently, said phrase means, "Attack me."
  • Kids Shouldn't Watch Horror Films: Ronnie Anne and her friends watch a horror movie about an evil hat man, and, throughout the second half of the episode, they mistake a disheveled Arturo for the hat man.
  • Secretly Wealthy: This episode reveals that Laird really comes from a wealthy family that lives in a mansion. He didn't want to tell his friends about it because he didn't want to be treated differently from everyone else.

"Undivided Attention" provides examples of:

  • Artistic License – Physics: In the flashback of Carlota knocking down Bobby and CJ's card tower, she walks over it, even though her weight would cause it to fall over.
  • Fall of the House of Cards: Bizarrely, Bobby and CJ's card tower only collapses after Carlota has passed by.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: During the brief glimpse of the Fashion Safari leaderboard, the name "Leni" can be seen in third place. Presumably, this might be Leni Loud.
  • Rule of Three: Three flashbacks are shown when Carlos reminds Carlota of the times that she got distracted from playing Fashion Safari. In the first, she doesn't close the door to the Casagrandes' apartment when Frida comes in with a large pile of grocery bags, resulting in Frida getting attacked by the Alley Cats. In the second, she walks across the card tower that Bobby and CJ built, causing it to fall over. In the third, she doesn't change Carlitos' diaper, resulting in Carlitos leaving a stench that covers at least four blocks.
  • Shockingly Expensive Bill: The bill Carlota and Sergio rack up at the restaurant. Sergio uses Charles's credit card to pay for that, and Carlota advises Charles not to look at it.
  • Shout-Out: The Fashion Safari game Carlota is playing is very similar to the app game Pokémon Go.
  • Title Drop: Near the end of the episode, Carlota promises her tutor Charles to give him her "undivided attention."
  • Toilet Humor: One of the flashbacks involving Carlota being distracted by the Fashion Safari app has Carlitos soil his diaper so much it leaves a stink covering at least four blocks.
