Recap / The Casagrandes S 2 E 8 I Breakfast Bot Dynamic Do Over

Go To

I, Breakfast Bot: Ronnie Anne and her cousins hatch a plan to have Sid's Breakfast Bot do all of their chores.

Dynamic Do-Over: When Carl's dreams are crushed after meeting El Falcon, Bobby decides to take on the role himself.

"I, Breakfast Bot" provides examples of:

  • An Aesop: Do your own chores.
  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Unfortunately, after Sid upgrades Breakfast Bot, he decides to revolt against Ronnie Anne and her cousins by bringing all of the apartment's appliances to life.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The menudo Rosa has Ronnie Anne watch over comes into good use in the climax of the episode, where Ronnie Anne and Sid dispatch Breakfast Bot by dropping him in the stew.
  • Damsel in Distress: Happens to Sid when Breakfast Bot and his minions capture her and tie her up in Ronnie Anne's room.
  • Death Glare: Rosa delivers one to Sergio when he tries to talk his way out of doing chores.
  • The Diaper Change: One of Breakfast Bot's chores involves changing Carlitos' diaper.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Even Carl's El Falcon action figure rebels against the humans, much to Carl's dismay.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: In the climax of the episode, Breakfast Bot goes by "Dennis."
  • Gag Haircut: The razor doles this trope on CJ.
  • It's All My Fault: After Breakfast Bot captures Sid, Ronnie Anne and her cousins blame themselves for not doing their own chores.
  • My God, You Are Serious!: At first, Carl thinks Breakfast Bot is joking about rebelling against humans. But when Breakfast Bot has a toaster shoot him with a piece of toast, Carl realizes the robot's not joking.
  • Not Quite Dead: The ending of the episode has Breakfast Bot raising his arm from the stewpot, implying that he's not fully shut down.
  • Ocular Gushers: Carlitos cries in this manner when his robot dog falls apart.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Turned Against Their Masters: Resentful that he must continue to do people's chores even after being upgraded, Breakfast Bot brings all the apartment's appliances to life and starts a rebellion against Ronnie Anne, Sid, CJ, Carl, and Carlitos.

"Dynamic Do-Over" provides examples of:

  • Aborted Arc: At the end, El Falcon offers to make Carl his new sidekick, "El Pollito". Future episodes have never referenced this plotline.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: Carl finds Falcon Bobby's flinging Cobra Carlota out of his car using his cell phone "awesome" (his words), before quickly correcting himself.
  • Broken Pedestal: Carl is heartbroken when the guy posing as El Falcon in the comic book store turns out to be an easily stressed man who blatantly admits that he's an actor to Carl's face.
  • Faint in Shock: Carl does this when he learns that El Falcon is not real, causing Bobby to call the actor out on it.
  • Flexing Those Non-Biceps: Bobby shows off his muscles at one point, only for them to literally deflate after a few seconds.
  • I'm Your Biggest Fan: Carl says this word-for-word to the actor playing El Falcon.
  • It's All My Fault: After Carl throws away all his El Falcon stuff, Bobby blames himself for all this and resolves to make it up to him.
  • Nice Character, Mean Actor: Subverted realistically; the actor portraying El Falcon only lashes out at Carl because he is tired and stressed by constant comic signings and fan questions. However, he's still quick to saving the lives of Bobby and Carl when a giant signboard nearly falls on top of them, thus restoring Carl's faith in El Falcon, while also restoring the actor's own faith in his role.
  • Parody Name: The Expy of Commissioner Gordon is called Commissioner Gordo as in "Fatso".
  • Superhero Episode: The episode dabbles with this concept as Bobby becomes the Flaming Wing Hero to raise Carl's spirits and gets his family members to play along.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • Carl believed everything on El Falcon was real; when he learns that this isn't the case, he reacts as any hugely disappointed fan would; that is, he doesn't take it well.
    • Also, after Bobby has play-acted El Falcon with Carlota, Carlos, and Rosa, he is understandably nervous when the mercado is being robbed by a real crook!
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Bobby gives a kid friendly version of this phrase after El Falcon breaks the truth to Carl and crushes his heart.
