"The Anything Can Happen Recurrence" is an episode of The Big Bang Theory that first aired on April 24, 2014. Directed by Mark Cendrowski. Teleplay by Jim Reynolds, Steve Holland and Tara Hernandez, based on a story by Steven Molaro, Eric Kaplan and Adam Faberman.

Supposedly Amy's ill and Bernadette has to work late tonight. At Penny's suggestion, Sheldon reinstates Anything Can Happen Thursday. By coincidence, Leonard, Penny and Sheldon discover Amy and Bernadette drinking wine at a bar. Of course Sheldon goes in to confront them Amy and Bernadette.

It turns out that Amy and Bernadette were tired of hearing Sheldon worry about what should be his new field of study and they were also tired of hearing Penny complain about the movie she's working on. Same goes for Leonard, actually, to Penny's chagrin.

Penny orders Sheldon to leave with her to an Asian fusion restaurant, and later they wind up at a psychic. Sheldon makes it abundantly clear to the psychic (Kimberly Herbert Gregory) that he thinks she's a fraud. The psychic nevertheless figures out that Sheldon is having romantic trouble with a dark-haired woman, and that that woman is the key to Sheldon's personal well-being and professional success.

Meanwhile Raj watches House of 1000 Corpses with Howard to mentally prepare himself for watching it with Emily (Laura Spencer). Raj can't understand why Emily likes horror movies. Raj talks it over with Emily, and as soon as Emily says that horror movies turn her on sexually, Raj stops wondering and starts the movie.

Tropes

  • Brick Joke: The Catholic school uniform Bernadette wears instead of apologizing to Howard.
  • Catholic School Girls Rule: Bernadette mentions that she dresses in a Catholic school uniform whenever she has to apologize to Howard for something. Amy tries it on Sheldon in The Tag; predictably, it doesn't work.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Sheldon telepathically asks the psychic about the plot of the next Star Trek movie (Star Trek Beyond was roughly two years away when this episode first aired).
    • Raj wishes he was in a relationship with a girl who likes The Sound of Music. Quite predictably, Howard says that Raj is the girl in the relationship who likes The Sound of Music.
  • Take That!:
    • Sheldon hates Asian fusion so much he vows to punish Amy by taking her there.
    • Sheldon doesn't understand the point of a Catholic school girl uniform unless it's to hide Gravity on blu-ray.
  • Take That Me: Sheldon thinks it's obvious that he's an annoying person, so the psychic doesn't have to be psychic to guess that he has difficulty relating to other people.
